RE: Heavy Fighter's Cruise Speed - Narcotic - 03-30-2013 Given that the current poll says 26 - 2, I found it worth bumping this. Let's forget the second question about nerving capital's speed and get back to the original 'request'. Do you think people would use the HF versions more often when buffing their cruise speed? I'd love to see more variety of fighter classes being used, and I'm convinced that this little buff might help. Are there any reasons speaking against that buff after all? RE: Heavy Fighter's Cruise Speed - Karst - 03-30-2013 The main problem I see with it is that it'll decrease the usefulness of LF's even more. Right now, LF's are mainly useful because they can outrun any other ship class, and can escape other ships in pretty much any situation by simply dodging and going for the nearest safe place. I agree that HF's could use a buff to make them more useful, but where would that leave LF's? They'd no longer be the only snub class that can outpace other ships in cruise. HF's would be able to do that, and have far greater firepower to actually fight something. So what about an even slighter increase.....perhaps around 360-365, so they still have that extra boost when escaping on cruise, but not enough of a speed advantage to chase down cruising targets except over very long distances? I'd be fine with that, too. But I don't think that it'll change much. LFs will always have the superior cruise speed. No matter if the difference is 40 or 25 m/s. RE: Heavy Fighter's Cruise Speed - Karst - 03-31-2013 On second thought, and after some quick calculations, you're probably right. Let's say a fighter needs to get 7k closer to a target cruising away to CD them. In a light fighter, this is achieved after around 50k. Which means a 375 HF would take 100k. That kinda gap is, I suppose, enough to warrant the use of a LF instead, although it would still mean a HF is capable of chasing down a target that has a long way to fly, such as a pirate. So yeah....s'all good I guess, I would welcome this change. Right now, the only HF's I see fairly regularly are Bayos. Although it's not like LF's are exactly common. Maybe they should get a (very small) cruise boost, too. Or even a tiny thruster boost, 6 m/s or so. But that's another discussion a guess. RE: Heavy Fighter's Cruise Speed - Ursus - 03-31-2013 LF also has faster thruster speed, so it can outdistance a pursuer without entering cruise RE: Heavy Fighter's Cruise Speed - Narcotic - 03-31-2013 (03-31-2013, 05:36 PM)Ursus Wrote: LF also has faster thruster speed, so it can outdistance a pursuer without entering cruise They do? I never noticed, although I'm flying LFs now and then. But freighters and all snub classes thrust at 200m/s. RE: Heavy Fighter's Cruise Speed - Narcotic - 03-31-2013 Ah, sure. I though he meant specifically LFs, and not snubs in general. RE: Heavy Fighter's Cruise Speed - Curios - 03-31-2013 Don't touch nothing. RE: Heavy Fighter's Cruise Speed - Omicron - 03-31-2013 Perhaps give HF's better thruster speed as opposed to LF's (interceptors) faster cruising. |
