I have my very first computer, an Amstrad 464 with a color screen sitting out in the shed. I'm pretty sure if I dragged it out and hooked it up it would still work, but it's just not worth the hassle. Warcraft uses 100+ MB RAM at all times (which isn't much, but it's a lot more than 64 MB RAM, especially since you also need RAM for windows). I have 3 computers in my house. The oldest one is 10 years old, has 2 GB RAM and 2.8 GHz dual core processor. It's still good enough to run most new games today. People don't actually need their 4.0 GHz eight-core 16 GB RAM computers that they brag about. The limiting factor is their internet, and making their computer faster will never change their ping. A good computer lasts surprisingly longer than people think, though. RE: Worst PC competition - onca - 05-09-2013 The lowest spec PC I have is: 386-SX 20MHz, 8Mb RAM, 170 Mb hard drive, running Win 3.11. And it runs happily on my network via a 10-base-T/10-base-2 router . The NiMH CMOS battery corroded and ate part of the motherboard, but it somehow still runs, although I have to input the HDD params every time I turn it on ![]() The lowest spec PC I have which does something useful: Pentium III 450 MHz, 384Mb RAM, 250Gb + 200Gb harddrives, 16Mb 4x AGP video card. It's running Ubuntu 9.10, and it's my torrent server (thanks to its low low power consumption). When I had Win98 installed it could actually run Freelancer at the lowest graphics setting. PS. If you really wanna get technical, I have a working Apple IIc, circa 1985, along with a bunch of floppy disks. RE: Worst PC competition - Garuda - 05-10-2013 My first Computer. 133 MHz 32 MB Ram 4 MB Video Card Plus maybe one or two GB http://www.abandonwaredos.com/public/aban_img_screens/comanchemaximum-3.jpg and this was my first game in my young life... RE: Worst PC competition - monmarfori - 05-14-2013 I installed a virutal Win95 and loaded freelancer... then it crashed. |
