RE: Peoples mentality about Piracy demands baffles me.. - JayDee Kasane - 05-20-2013 I guess that real point of it is - with cargo piracy you sure that you lost it already. With cash piracy, you cant be sure that you will not have another pirate on your way. So if you pay 6 mills (half from 12) and then another pirate in other system asks you for cargo - you lost more then just that cargo now. Trading with regular commodities aint get many pirates on you. I myself sometimes let people go if they haul something of little value or want em to pay 500k-1mil. Its really depends on player that sits behind a monitor. I enjoy RP as pirate, but I dont wanna go jerk at people stealing their all profit if they aint go ''kill me I wont pay'' or silent running. So if you paid pirate some cash and got cargo pirated later - you loose more. If you cargo pirated by first pirate - you not lost too much. RE: Peoples mentality about Piracy demands baffles me.. - sindroms - 05-20-2013 This is why I said that the piracy happens on the last lane. Just for the sake of that particular example. I am just saying that it is sanctionable (?) to ask 100% of the cargo in money. But it is encouraging pirate RP to ask all of the cargo dropped. RE: Peoples mentality about Piracy demands baffles me.. - sindroms - 05-20-2013 Well, okay, I suppose you cannot really know if the person already has been pirated for a couple of million along the way to your lane. So eh. RE: Peoples mentality about Piracy demands baffles me.. - Just.Dave - 05-20-2013 Well even if he has not been pirate at all till the end and then meet you he still lose 500k if cargo go for 12mil and buy it for 500k he would make 11.5mil so paying 12mil to a pirate is all way a no go RE: Peoples mentality about Piracy demands baffles me.. - Zen_Mechanics - 05-20-2013 Some people ask for money and then ask you to drop the cargo so that they can destroy it ( thanks to corsairs ). Unheard pirates are to be avoided. That's a rule violation. You can only make one demand at once. RE: Peoples mentality about Piracy demands baffles me.. - Oorn - 05-20-2013 IMHO, both "whole cargo"(asuming cargo piracy happens at the very end) and "whole cargo cost" are pvp abuse. Its basicly pirate's way of saying "HUR-DUR I Pirate U lost 20 mins of yo life HUR-DUR and I blue U now cause I can". Cargo piracy near sell point goes directly at cargo max cost. Its both griefing because it forces trader into U_GAIN_NOTHING situation. Even being super liberal, 1/2 max cost is close to abuse, because pirates cant know wheter trader was pirated before, and realisticly 1/3 for trader to profit. Also i think rules should state: "max 1 demand for several pirates grouped together" When i encounter literaly 4 pirates in a row that are obviosly grouped, each 2miling me its just iritating. To sum it up: "Whole cargo" is not abuse if it happens close to buy point, 1/2 max profit for "close" routes and 1/3 for "far". (asuming trader doesnt trespass home pirate zones or has personal grudges with pirate, at which point everything is fair game) Same values also apply for cargo piracy. However such things should NEVER be stated in rules, they should be known only to Admins for sanction purposes. EDIT: Ore or barge demands should not be so limited. You SHOULD get escorts for such profit. EDIT: Now I wish there existed some kind of "Unofficial Pirate Codex" RE: Peoples mentality about Piracy demands baffles me.. - Zen_Mechanics - 05-20-2013 (05-20-2013, 03:08 PM)Narcotic Wrote:(05-20-2013, 03:06 PM)Tel-Aviv Wrote: Some people ask for money and then ask you to drop the cargo so that they can destroy it ( thanks to corsairs ). Regarding those pirates I can file 100 reports but I don't bother doing it because they will keep doing in, the same way they /rename and blah blah blah. ( That's the downside of Disco pad ). It's funny that they lecture abour rules but break them in the process. Regarding the OP, If I pirate I never ask more than 1 mill, unless its ore/Iridium. Actually, no. Just like there is no rule about how much can you ask, within reason. There is no rule about how many times can you pirate someone within reason. Neither there is a rule about killing the trader after a demand is made, though it borders on 1.2 . Where's the logic? Admins can track them even when they've renamed their ships. Don't complain about it when you don't "bother to report" them? |
