A dev's log. - Miranda - 08-31-2012

Maybe the dev team needs a PR handler to interact with the player base, or at least work with faction leaders? Might take some of the work off you and the others.

Linkus had let slip a while back that Coronado was getting shrunk a fair bit - since its pretty retard huge, was hoping thats still on the docket. [Image: emoticon-00138-thinking.gif]

' Wrote:Kind reminder. I'm not the devteams PR man. Coming to me with issues that aren't what I'm handling will end up getting you ignored. IE commenting on balance, or "can my faction have this or that in the storyline" or "can you tell Blodo/Friday this". I'm not going to do that kind of thing, since that'll end up eating time that's better spent actually doing devwork. I've outright deleted several PMs relating to this - it was getting rather out of hand.

This is the only real problem with Discovery, the devs SHOULD have a PR guy or something, cos as muc as this log is very nice and all, we don'€˜t what happened for the .86 update. Waiting a year without info then BOOM, there it is. Hopefull I don'€˜t sound like too much of a prick after writing that

... mhm. I don't see a volunteer stepping up.

As for Coronado, I'm not aware of any plans to shrink it down. The part of the system that gets used is mainly the passage from Cortez to Baffin - I suppose it wouldn't be too hard to bring the rest of the system a bit closer to the Barrier.

totally agreed on that one... what one needs is

- a kind attitude.. which means, NEVER to insult others, NEVER to make snarky remarks or question other people sanity/intellect, NEVER to rage about something
- being entrusted details without spilling them even to friends on 3rd party channels, no matter how much the ppl are BFFs
- being able to organize information in terms of transparency, clarity and structure - very often, one gets a garbled version that lacks objectivity
- if ever possible - keep the own opinion out of the threads. PR ( in that case ) is not meant to manipulate, justify or explain. it is pure information

and most of all

- putting a LOT of time and work into all that. - informations are not presented on a silver platter, they need to be hunted down - devs need to be contacted and information needs to be asked of them. - it also needs to be confirmed WHY something is to be released in WHAT way and also at what TIME. ( thats also why only lead devs would make such dev logs atm )

its a lot of work - but i m quite sure if someone with sufficient social skills, writing skills and time comes forth, it might be a blessing in many ways.

Well i'd do it but... you know... the whole me not being a dev kinda reduces the effectiveness of me trying to do that

Did you ask people if they would do it? I dont think so. The whole way the dev team works might be rather hard to understand for people that arent in it, doubt that you can expect someone to just step up saying 'Hey Ill do it' if they dont even know that they could do that.

A dev's log. - AeternusDoleo - 09-01-2012

The way we work is rather simple actually. A single skype chat to coordinate. A ticket tracker to keep track of stuff that's been approved and needs to actually be done. A dev forum (not the section on this one) for discussion and communication when skype gets spammy. Beyond that it's mainly people finding the motivation to self-educate themselves on freelancer modding.

Someone wanting to work on something simply grabs a ticket, does the work, then submits the work to the lead person for that work (IE models - me, balance - Blodo/Mjolnir, infocards - Xoria and so on).

I've volunteered for the PR role. It's being discussed internally at the moment.

Good luck, oh, although you are a fine fine badger, you need to work on that winning "i dont care about you, im here for the attention" smile that any PR guy from movies has.

other then that. i think you qualify quite well... If anything, it would prevent the rest of us from being kept in the dark.
