Subject: Longhorn acquisition

Dear colleagues and directors,

I am writing to inform you that the Alaska, a Longhorn-class vessel, has been officially registered in our naval records. This Liberty Heavy Frigate was chosen for its remarkable versatility: compact size, spacious cargo hold, armor and weaponry comparable to those of a cruiser, and the ability to operate for weeks without requiring resupply.
Given these characteristics, assigning it to the Triton fleet was a natural decision.

This news may come as a surprise, as the vessel was not acquired through company resources but rather through a joint financial effort between myself and the crew of the Svalbard, the ship I previously commanded.
Acting independently was, unfortunately, a necessity due to the inaction of the leadership, particularly the SEC, in ensuring greater security for its crews and our guests. For this reason, we decided to move forward on our own with the purchase of the vessel, reaching out to our neighbors at DSE on Susquehanna.

With the company’s approval, we would like the proceeds from the Alaska's upcoming cruises to be allocated toward covering the acquisition costs, distributing them between myself and my crew until the investment is fully recouped. Of course, we remain open to dialogue and discussion to realign with standard company procedures as soon as possible.

Regards,
Cpt. David Farina

Subject: Mothballed fleet, how to reactivate a vessel?

To our directors in Curacao,
I must admit that our colleagues beyond the border are far more enterprising than we are—not that it takes much to be less rigid and duty-bound than us Rheinlanders.

But let us get to the point.

Traffic on the TE routes to and from Baden Baden has surged, both in terms of booked cabins per ship and overall demand. Tourists from Gallia are taking advantage of the region’s relative stability to travel, and the restoration of the Jump Gate to Omega-11 has made many previously isolated systems more accessible.

With our current liners stationed here, we can no longer handle this volume. We need larger vessels.

Following the example of The Stagecoach, we intend to reactivate a Pilgrim Liner currently mothballed in Rheinland: the OS&C|TE-Flying-Dutchman. Its former captain was the previous TE director, who, as far as we know, is no longer listed in Orbital’s captain registry.

While we could have proceeded on our own, we prefer to adhere to regulations and directives. Therefore, we request confirmation on whether reactivating this vessel is possible. If so, what procedures must be followed for crew reassignment? Additionally, whom should we contact in Rheinland to assess the ship’s condition?

Unsere herzlichsten Grüße,
Herman Schmidt und das Team von Baden Baden.

Hello Capitan Schmidt

It's Chairwoman Cross speaking here. I apologize for the late Response to your Question. Let us jump straight into the matter, shall we? To reactivate the Dutchman we would need not many Steps. First, you should speak with the Foreman of the Mothball Yard as he should have all the Paperwork to determine what kind of Mothball Status the Ship is. As you should know we have several Categories of Mothballing a Ship. From simple Mothball Storage all the way to Status as being nothing more than Spare Parts Storage to keep the Existing Fleet running. If the ship is in good Enough Condition then we can Transfer her from the Mothball to the Regular Ship Registry. Afterward, we can look for a Shipyard to bring the Liner up to date for Passenger Service. In Rheinland, I think we should Contact our Friends at Daumann Heavy Construction and ask for a Slot at the Drydock of the Alster Shipyard. I am sure They can help Bring the Systems up to date and especially assist us with the Interior Modifications.

I think it's a good idea to Dedicate the Dutchman to the Passenger Shuttle Between Rheinland and Gallia. I think this could definitely Boost our Business and with the Popularity of Baden Baden by both Sirians and Gallics I am sure that we can get a Pretty Quick Return on our Investment and are also able to hit the Profit Margin within the First year of Service. For now, I want to inform you that you have the Full Support of the Board of Directors and that we will provide the funds for this Endeavour.

Hello Capitan Farina

This is the Chairwoman speaking. First I want to apologise for the Inactiveness of the Security Department that have Forced you to such a Step in the first Place. I will make sure to have a Stern talk with the Responsible subcontractor and make sure that Spa-Sec will get all the resources it needs to Properly Protect our ships and their Crews. To force a Crew and Capitan to make such a Private Investment should never be necessary.

Still, I am pleased to see that you showed initiative and searched for a Solution that would both fit your Crew and your Guests. The Longhorn Frigatte is Truly a Craft Worthy for OS&C Service. My Former Weapons Officer, Capitan Samuel Fuentes also Commanded a Longhorn for a while now, and the Man is Praising the ship on every occasion. I can see how the Incorporation of more Longhorn Class Vessels could definitely benefit our Business. The Longhorn will be especially popular among those Guests that are a bit Paranoid and want that Extra Feeling of Security.

As for the Investment that you have done in the Ship and its Equipment I have talked with the Treasury and can Offer you the Following Options.

  1. OS&C Will fully Reinburce You and your Crew from Company Funds for both the Building Costs of the Ship and its Equipment as well as the Interior Modifications and Decorations.

  2. OS&C will Exempt Alaska and its Crew from the Usual Service Fees and Taxes for the Next 5 Years. This also means that all Profits will go fully towards the Investors of Alaska till the Ship is Paid in Full.

Both Options should make it easier for you and your Crew to Regain your Investment in a faster way and should take the Financial Burden off the shoulders of both yourself and your Crew. And of course, we will make sure that you will Receive a Legally Binding Contract so you can be 100% Sure that whatever happens, you will have a Guarantied Right to the Agreement you will choose. Please inform me witch of these Options you will choose.

I’m pleased to receive a direct response from you, Caitlyn. I hope it’s clear that our actions were purely demonstrative and in no way intended as a sign of disrespect toward the management.

I’ve been with the company since the days when Johnatan Seabourne was just a captain, and I’ve never had any issues with upper management. Back then, the company felt more like a family-run business, whereas today, we’re a giant in tourism, entertainment, and passenger transportation. It’s only natural that, with growth, managing challenges has become increasingly complex.

Regarding the current matter, I’ve discussed the proposed options with my colleagues who are financially involved in the project. If possible, we’d like to take a middle-ground approach: retaining the profits from Alaska’s cruises for two and a half years while receiving corporate financial support limited to interior refurbishments. This would allow us to recover our expenses more quickly without significantly impacting the company’s finances.

Would this be an acceptable arrangement?

Cpt. David Farina

Dear Frau Cross,

I'm writing to provide you with an update regarding the Pilgrim. Tracking down the contact you referred us to proved rather challenging: he has no subordinates operating within Rheinland, his offices are located solely on Curacao, and he was on holiday on the Barbados at the time we reaached him.
Nonetheless, we managed to sort everything out. The transfer of launch codes went smoothly, and the vessel is now officially registered in our logs under the designation TE-Rhine.

As for the ship itself, its current condition is assessed as flight readiness level 2—meaning it is suitable for transit through a Jumpgate, though a light overhaul of the internal systems will be needed to restore it to optimal performance. Our team has already begun inspections to determine what components can be salvaged and what will need replacement.

Regarding the shipyard work, Alster is currently under Imperial ownership rather than Daumann. Would you prefer that we rent a drydock there, or should we contact DHC to secure a slot at Oder or the Ring?

Thanks for your support, Directorin. I will be in touch with further updates as the work progresses.

Kind regards,

Unsere herzlichsten Grüße,
Herman Schmidt und das Team von Baden Baden.

Frau Cross,

I’ve just had quite the laugh with the Vessel Operations Office on Curacao — would you care to know why? The ship we reactivated is not the Flying Dutchman. In fact, we haven’t the faintest idea what ship it actually is.

Surprised? I imagine just as much as I was. Allow me to share the message I received, so that you may appreciate the situation in full:

RE: Request #OFM33432, urgent notification Wrote:Mr. Schmidt,
There appears to have been an unfortunate misunderstanding regarding your request #OFM33432, pertaining to the activation of a Pilgrim Liner TTR-1130 in geostationary orbit above Baden Baden.
To my knowledge, there were only two such vessels within our TE fleet: the Stagecoach and the Dutchman. The former is still on active duty; the latter was supposed to be stationed precisely where you indicated.

Regrettably, it seems both you and I were mistaken.

When you requested the startup codes, I must admit — through my own oversight — I accessed the ship located at the specified coordinates without further verification. After all, it was meant to be the only one. However, when we received the notice regarding the ship’s name change a few days ago, I looked again out of sheer curiosity. And that’s when I realised that the TE-Flying Dutchman had, in fact, never been touched. It’s still there. In orbit. Around Curacao.

In short, I handed you the keys to a ship we didn’t even know we had.

Here’s what I recommend: do not move the vessel from its current position above Baden Baden, and get in touch with the Directorate to find out more. As things stand, the activation procedure has overwritten what little data we had regarding its previous use. There might be something of use onboard, or perhaps in the local archives.
My apologies for the inconvenience caused. Though, one might argue, you too could have checked that the name painted on the hull matched the records.

Do keep me informed — this is one of the more intriguing cases we’ve encountered in the past two years.
Mr. Lucas Derby

In light of that, I'm following the instructions given.
Directorin, are you aware of any details regarding this vessel? Might we obtain access to the local servers on Curacao in order to shed some light on this curious mystery?

Waiting for your feedback,

Unsere herzlichsten Grüße,
Herman Schmidt und das Team von Baden Baden.

Hello Capitan Farina

First, I think we are still a Family Company. I see all of our Employees as part of the Orbital Family. Especially the Capitans of our excellent liners and cruise ships. And to be honest with all the work I have to keep some of you out of Trouble I have to say that I somedays feel like the Mommy of the Company.

Now then let us talk about your Ship and your Investors. I have talked with the Accounting Department and we came to the Agreement that your Middlegroudn is Acceptable. We have already given out Marching Orders to the Departments that are affected by this and I am sure that you will notice the Changes by the Next time you and your Ship will Reach an OS&C Port. I wish you the best for all the Endeavors that you and the Alaska have over the next years.

Hello Capitan Schmidt

This is really a Curious tale that you tell here. But to be honest with you it's not 100% Surprising. During the Rheinland Civil War we had Several Vessels that were Stranded on Curacao due to the War and the whole Shenanigans that Came with it. What is surprising to me is that no one in the Mothball Department had deemed it Necessary to ask why there are 2 Pilgrim Liners at the Mothball Yard on Baden Baden. I mean these dam ships aren't that small after all. If I am Informed Right then they have a length of at least a Hundred Meters and a width of 30 to 50 or so. Not to mention that these things Weigh Several Ten Thousands of tons. I have talked with the Keeper of Records on Baden Baden and he will await you at the Local HQ to bring you into the Data Storage Vault of the Planet.

I want this Problem Solved and I want this to solve Qucik. That we have had a completely random Ship in our Yards for probably Years and no one seemed to Care is an Absolute Disaster. The Lawyers here on Curacao are currently getting more Grey Hair by the Second as this could Open us up to a Massive Lawsuit if we should Find out that this Ship Belongs to someone and we have had their property over all these years without Contacting them. So Solve this Capitan Schmidt and make sure that this won't Cast a Shadow onto Baden Baden. The Resort is finally in the Profit Margin and I want it to stay this way. I hope I made myself abundantly clear. Oh and please Order that Guy from the Mothball Yard to make a Proper and Thourg Inventory Search of the Yard. I do not want any more Ships Appearing in our Possession that are not registered in our Database.

Greetings Chairwoman!

An exhilarated Theobald Franklin grins from the screen, radiating pride and ecitment, barely able to restrain himself.

I can't belief what I'm about to tell you. He pauses, then nearly screams: She's back to herself!

He clears is throat, calming down and takes a professinal postiore again.

Sorr 'bout that. I'm just a bit... excited. Well, as I was saying. Reverie has her old Rheinland engines again. As you are aware of, we had some malfunctions in the last months. The engine fix our Junker friendsinstalled has some issues, and we barely were able to keep them running. My engineers did some wonderful work, so we could keep operating, but... well how to state it... it was always a bit ... questionable.. how long the engines would hold.
But now... well we did had some help here on Cannes. Davis, my first maat, met a woman here in one of the bars and, well, they did talk and it turned out, she was an engineer specialized on Rheinland engines. Davis and she spent some time down in Reverie's bowls, and within two days, the engines were up and running again as if they never had problems!

I would commended Matthew Davis for his initiatives and sent that woman a generous gift from Reverie's fundings.

I attach some shots from our surveilance bots so you can view the successfull work yourself.

It feels good that she is back to her old self. Ever since that malfunctions she did not feel right, but now ... she does feel right again.

Best regards,
Cpt. Theobald Franklin
