Beau is not a member of the [LN], not saying that's what you were trying to imply, but it's the way you made it sound. However, one of the issues is that people assume that because you wrote it out, they now know your name. As in, if [LN]-LNS-Anchorage goes "Baker: Yadda yadda.", people then go "Hey Baker, how are you doing?". That's a bit awkward. It's not like you're saying the word "Baker" out loud, or something. This is how the majority of Disco has roleplayed caps for literally years. You'll always run into morons who metagame your name, but it's a small price to pay for knowing who is actually doing the speaking onboard the ship. RE: I have a theory I'd like to test. When I came around and played for a few weeks, before slipping back only to return in 83-84, they did not. That is the fun bit and something I will address in that next thread. Whilst the first LNS makes a better first impression, subsequent impressions are also important. RE: I have a theory I'd like to test. I've been seeing people put names to indicate whose talking for as long as I've been in disco. Granted I haven't been here as long as others, but it has been about 3 years, so yes people have been doing that for "literally years." RE: I have a theory I'd like to test. Otherwise, opponent don't know who speaks with him. But how does that create good RP though? I mean where would you know the guy's name from if he didn't introduce himself, and if he did introduce himself why rehash it every other second as if he's talking to a mentally challenged individual? Yes, grammar punctuation and the likes have a huge impact on how players are perceived when there's so little else to go in this internet pseudo world (with no facial expressions, tone of voice, gestures etc. etc., quality of communication - good grammar or not - is inherently low), and that's only to be expected. The issue is that a lot of players and Disco as a whole never really did an effort to recognize this, and keep equating quality of RP with quality of language. RE: I have a theory I'd like to test. I have to add that the pilot's/captain's name shouldn't only be used with caps, but also with snubs which don't carry it in their name. RE: I have a theory I'd like to test. So come here and vote on this poll. - Croft - 08-09-2013 All three are fine in terms of potential, number one has a touch more quality by using a name to show who is speaking, makes the RP more personal as opposed to speaking to the ship. The only thing that bugs me is number three's use of "u" instead of "you" something I associate with laziness. RE: I have a theory I'd like to test. So come here and vote on this poll. - Cris - 08-09-2013 I voted other, as in none of them and was going to type this: "Military warships doing the job of the police, forget gunboats and bombers, bring in the carrier escorted by more warships". Then a few posts later I noticed the LN acting like police thing. So with that aside I think typing full words ("you" instead o "u"), not using lolspeak or emoticons is enough to be considered good RP in that situation, so 1 and 2 look equally fine to me. I'm pretty new to the individual character saying something being commonplace. The idea is good though and I think it suits capital ship RP well.
