RE: Enough is enough. You're the nail you cry about so much. - Papa Oomaumau - 02-01-2014 Saronsen, as Omicega has suggested, I don't think that you've taken the time to bother to hear yourself from outside your own head. I agree with the gist of your post: It is annoying to have people complaining about 'things' and perks, and wanting the world to revolve around them - valuing these transient and temporary things over other players - and indeed not being thankful to the dev/mod/admin team is a thing we all are guilty of. It's true, most of this community would rather play AT each other than WITH each other. Its, just, well.. ...your delivery sucks. You actually can invalidate a valid point by being undiplomatic about it. (02-01-2014, 08:26 AM)Saronsen Wrote: ...I've grown to despise many of you even more than I originally had.... And worse, the above sentence fragments, if they weren't thrown like a blanket over the entire community, would buy you a fast ticket to TempBan for trolling. Advice: write what you want, go get a cup of coffee or a pint, drink it, READ IT, edit it, THEN send it. RE: Enough is enough. I read my post several times before posting it. Being gentle towards the community has no impact. Zero. Zilch. I'm not subtle. I'm not diplomatic, nice, or respectful in most cases. I actually made considerable effort to to down my post to begin with, however. People tend to react when you're not gently cooing them with kind words. RE: Enough is enough. You're the nail you cry about so much. - lIceColon - 02-01-2014 There is no logic in Discovery - both the mod and the people For every community made up of multitudes of people, there is a conflict of interest - some people prefer RP/Logic/Realism/Actoring, others prefer Cooltoys/Fun/Balance/Gaming. Democracy - is a method that attempts to suite as many people's individual agendas as possible, and there is nothing wrong with having an individual agenda - some people come to write short novels, some people come to become rich in pixel credits, some people exist to ruin other people's day with their space guns, and for each of these categories there is a different approach. And it is up to the "management" to decide how much of their own agenda to impose, and how much of the community to take into account, enough so that people don't start leaving. People who scream are like the friend who takes extremely loud baby steps walking out the door, hoping the friend will change to accommodate his individual agenda. But what happens when this friend has 400 other friends to deal with? Then the only way to make it work is compromise. Therefore the mandatory relaxed RP official server attitude which tries to make everyone happy, and as a result almost nobody is happy. I have an agenda- the agenda that I would like to spend a billion credits on a battleship that doesn't die the instant it meets a mere cruiser or 2 or 3 bombers, but that is just me. Then there are people who would prefer ships be more balanced (gameplay wise) so a single skilled bomber can take down a unskilled cau8 bs, but that's just him, and that's why both of us can post in the forum so the devs can try to figure out some sort of appeasement that appeals to both of us. There's nothing wrong with complaining, it's just an act of voicing your discontent. But know the purpose of your complaining: Is it to improve the mod so it becomes better, or is it just to diss the devs and make yourself feel better? Get this through your head: This section of the forum is not a place for your "artistic" ways of voicing opinion. It is simply for you to state your opinion. it is not a place for you to write a little poem, or post a little meme, or go through some elaborate gesture worthy of the Louvre itself (I'm looking at you "nope.avi") - no, you have flood for that. Objectivity should be the key when posting here. Keep your emotions to yourself, it is unwanted. You have a right to voice their opinion, but keep it civil and don't make it personal. Here are some common misconceptions in the OP which need to be dealt with: 1. Just because I don't know how to code, does not mean my complaint is invalid. 2. Just because I haven't contributed as a dev, does not mean my complaint is invalid. 3. Just because 80% of the community asked for a change, doesn't mean I can't be against it 4. Just because I asked for a change, doesn't mean I can't - after seeing the results of it implemented, turn around and say "this was a bad idea" 5. Just because a dev spent hours making something does not automatically mean we keep the end product 6. Even a retard can make a valid point when whining 7. The community is not a single entity 8. Just because someone angrily posted a rant of justice does not make every word in his post true or logically sound for that matter. RE: Enough is enough. That's hypocritical, as you were saying that when players apply that attitude towards devs it's a bad thing. RE: Enough is enough. You're the nail you cry about so much. - Karst - 02-01-2014 I think I'd be more inclined to listen to you if you were capable of writing a single sentence that doesn't contain an insult. I also find it funny that you keep talking about everyone crying and raging, and then you write the most tear and rage filled post of them all. A post that's nothing more than a way for you to vent your hatred of everyone, thinly disguised as a "call to our senses". RE: Enough is enough. You're the nail you cry about so much. - Aphil - 02-01-2014 I'm not sure if this is a secret or not but yea, I agree with Saronsen. It's been pretty obviously for a while that this community is by far one of the worst and most toxic to play in. I know not all of you act this way but it's always the most vocal of you that act like spoiled children, then we wonder why the server barely has new people. Not to mention how stupid some of you sound when you keep using that [A] symbol whenever you say Bias or how you say "Final Nail". Get over it, it stopped being funny the first time. And we KNOW Disco is going to die, it has to, eventually. But as Saronsen said, it'll be because of this community, not because of anything the Devs do. If it wasn't for the SCRA and a small number of people I actually ENJOY playing with, there'd be no reason for me to play here at all. But ah well, I doubt anything I say will change the attitudes some of you have so ingrained in your very being that you know no other way. RE: Enough is enough. You're the nail you cry about so much. - Tankman - 02-01-2014 Everyone says they agree. Then they will all go do the exact same thing they are agreeing is bad. Seen it too often in game communities :| RE: Enough is enough. You're the nail you cry about so much. - lIceColon - 02-01-2014 Yea, from the number of people disagreeing with Saronsen (1%? 2%?) I'd say we're in fairly good shape this community RE: Enough is enough. You're the nail you cry about so much. - mwerte - 02-01-2014 ad hominem attacks cleared, continue on with your civil discussion also, to the poster who said logical fallacies should be against the rules; that's the fallacy fallacy. Just because an argument contains a fallacy, doesn't mean it's incorrect. e; spelling is hard... RE: Enough is enough. You're the nail you cry about so much. - McNeo - 02-01-2014 Given that ad hominem attacks are entirely justified here... The separation of the argument from the person making it is all well and good, but I have to wonder why it's even necessary, if the person making the argument abides by said argument. That said, the core points being made are correct. However, the problem isn't rooted in the community - look at any community, whether it be an electorate in a country, internet forum, whatever. There's always a divergence of opinions right across the board. Different people whine about different things, creating the illusion that everybody is whining about everything. The problem here is that decisive action is required. Trying to please everybody makes nobody happy, and is a slow way of killing a community that is based upon people spending their time freely. It's better to make an ideological choice, stick with it, and guide all your policies and decisions towards that choice. In the case of discovery, its "fairness" vs "equality". The same can't be said for countries, since people live there and are essentially forced to participate. Choosing either one will result in supporters of the other leaving with a high probability. However, the server was just fine with 25 people at peak times when I joined, no reason for that to be any different now. |
