I lost many times on many characters. Do I rage quit? No. I learn each time and I'm more keen to keep roleplay than a PvP in the first place. There's nothing better than two pirate ships, floating around, looking for the prey. And even if they don't succeed, you are fulfilled.
I can still remember that hunt for Samura-Hogosha fleet in Kusari and Taus I've done on Akapai with Argo. Maybe unsuccessful (they escaped swiftly), but hell that hunt and war of the nerves and ploys lasted for straight 90 minutes. I felt like a real hunter. It was... beautiful.

I can give you a pirate sabre and you can do an closed economy character, easily the best way to really experience Disco.
