No Toris, you don't get it. We had such weapons once as a replacement of Razors, but they got instantly removed after yea well "problems".

But they worked actually fine as they hit the target, unlike Zappers. Only downside was that the turret was turning very slowly and it made very low dmg. But I think replacing Zappers with that would be a better idea.

I'm for it. I like that idea. Minmatar fleet assemble!

The charons already have enormous amount of damage, implementing something with even lower refire rate, slower speed and higher dps would make transports extremely imbalanced.

We all saw what IMG can do to capship pirates. (::

Exactly. Now imagine a weapon with even bigger dps on a transport.

Or you know, these funny big lazor/mass-drivers as seen in here:

All in all, Zappers scream to become actual anti-cap weapon, a laser destined to cut the hull. Why this? Well, because I believe the origin of this weapon, which is mining laser, should make that weapon rather powerful.

Don't compare the EVE engine to Freelancer engine. You are disgracing both games. Freelancer is an old engine which has stop evolving in the rightful company hand. EVE Online engine evolves every yer and can support such weaponry with little lag on players.

If we put some sort of 'beam' that cuts through hull - Freelancer will crash on the amount of lag it will cause. In other words - the engine isn't going to support and its not built for it on multiplayer campaign.

Not even magnets can explain how zappers work.

I can't understand your agresiveness anyway. I proposed the idea of a gun that would find place in Disco. And, as you noticed Captain Obvious, Freelancer Discovery engine cannot be upgraded, because of one little fact:

Half of the server population cannot even run such graphics like Crossfire has.

Of course, we do not have the source code, but Crossfire 2.0 and the newest Star Wars mod look like they were games with budget.

Then, uh... Why do we have zappers, as you said they would cause lags? I never spoke about actual cutting ship in half, mind you. Zappers are nothing more than fast invisible projectiles with neat effect put on it. Ask Alley. And I was refering to high hull damage.

All I pointed out it could be good anti-cap weaponry if remodified into "siege" beam - slower and more powerful, but it would be the similiar weaponry akin to Razors, with different effect. It would produce no lag - with 0.50 refire rate.

Then, uh, how are we playing Disco then, according to you? If we are going into "not designed for this" and "not designed to that" game, it wasn't designed to support flyable capital ships either. Next time read what you type before you post anything.

P.S. Don't take it as an assault. I don't know a crap about technical part of devs' work, but I based my replies on what devs were and are posting.
