Now you go and complain because K'Hara used terror instead of RP. <3 Community.

Absolutely this.

Folks, when you see a nomad in the system, you pretty much have three options:
a) Be useful to the Nomads and your life might be extended for a bit.
b) Be prepared to fight for your life.
c) Run.

All of these options have worked both when I play against Nomads and when I play as Nomad so far.
The games main antagonist killing you is also pretty much a part of the roleplay, same as the reverse thing.

Against cloaks, there is the warning signal once they are close to you. That's the moment when you should use the introduced cloak disruptor. If you don't listen for the signal or can't be bothered to equip/use the cloak disruptor, too bad. Deal with it and specialize.

RE: Nomads - DragonLancer - 12-20-2015

And there is more...

In the end the community did a great job - including the posts here.
There was team-play on both sides and some players revealed themselves or were revealed.
Afterall it was a great show/fighting.
I gave ingame respects and was happy to get one back.
Same goes to the players on the scene who kept up roleplay but separated factions on the other side.

Go and provide actually some decent role-play instead of supporting power-traders which ruins the game all.
Freelancers, smugglers, traders, lawful, unlawful, semi-lawful, infected, blue things and even zoners are PARTS of the roleplay.
More important is the community.
We play in different factions with different character but we mostly enjoy being human and having fun.

A lot of us had contributed.

RE: Nomads - Ramke - 12-20-2015

I'll shove my thoughts in here since I had a nomad uncloak and instakill me the second later while I was in the middle of lots of RP with KPT yesterday. Note, not even a transport.

I don't feel like I should be removed from the game because someone thought it'd be fun to instakill someone without any chance to do anything about it. This is the same as an admin going on a power trip and nullifying your ship because you disagreed with his opinion about some irrelevant thing/player/topic.

Is (not the RISK, but the CHANCE) to suddenly meet a game over screen at ANY POINT of doing ANYTHING going to contribute to the well-being of the community in this game? Shouldn't the player have some opportunity to resist without buying ridiculously expensive equipment practically nobody uses that gimps your combat performance and escape opportunities?

I don't think this is okay as it is. Silent engaging is okay, K'Hara should be dangerous and shouldn't roleplay with humans that are completely irrelevant. What's not okay, is the fact that we literally can -not- do anything about it unless we invest massive money and downgrade our normal ships in some manner, or we start avoiding any and all interactions.

Giving the players a chance to prevent absolutely random game over screens appearing should be a thing. It is not a thing.

What i could suggest is simply giving the player a decent time to react. Like it's written in the rules, for god's sake. A huge tentacle sliding up my ass out of cloak and incinerating me in a split second is NOT giving a decent time to react and just ruins my mood miserably.

And I don't really consider "fly off the lanes and avoid hotspots of player interaction" "use the player list to check if a K'Hara is there and run away as fast as possible regardless of your situation" "buy really expensive equipment and constantly be on the edge" as solutions to this problem. I'd be okay with silent engaging IF cloak buttstabs were not involved, because that would give you a bloody chance to actually do anything about it.

You took the words right out of my mouth bro

RE: Nomads - jammi - 12-20-2015

I really don't mind the Khara's new hostility experiment and I'd happily set up a whole bunch of false flag QQ threads just to force Huggie to follow up on his extension threats. However, there is a big but appended to that sentiment.

Nomad faction cloaks make interactions with any of the official factions an incredibly frustrating experience for the majority. I know many simply refuse to log in or actively log out when they see you nearby. Disruptors are incredibly rare and directly gimp the ship mounting them, leading to an extremely small proliferation.

This is at least partially the fault of the way they're implemented. The tables are stacked way in favour of the Nomads here, and the fact that you'll actively avoid the exceedingly few ships that bother mounting disruptors further undermines their point. I've personally caught a few Khara with my disruptor resulting in their untimely demise, but that's certainly the exception and not the rule.

I honestly think you guys would take a lot less flak if your cloaks didn't have infinite duration and instead used some kind of fuel to promote more tactical usage. Maybe liquid cardimine?

RE: Nomads - Moberg - 12-20-2015

You have enough time to prepare with the sound that cloaks make. The sound range is 3k, I believe, and it takes the fastest nomad ship ~8 seconds to reach you in cruise and even then, the powercore is fully drained and has to recharge for an "instakill". In impulse, you have even more time to notice the sound. This nets you at least 12 seconds to realize something is cloaked around you before it can even bother to attack you. In my experience, this is more than enough time to prepare for an imminent attack.

RE: Nomads - sindroms - 12-20-2015

I was the nomad that was operating in New London yesterday, so I suppose the thread is directed at me, mostly.
From what I learned yesterday is that people tend to play with their sound set to low, so perhaps it would be a good idea to make the cloak effect sound, at least for nomads as they are rocking unlimited cloaks, to be made louder and have a much larger range of detection.

As for the thread. I was going to write up a much more in depth reply, but I suppose it can be summed up with: Nomads are so defanged right now that we had to replace them as antagonists with Phantoms and Gallia. Now there are nomads that will talk to you, but there also ones that will murder your face. Dare you find out which is which?

RE: Nomads - Swallow - 12-20-2015

So, from what I have read the officials act like indies in Omicrons, am I right?

RE: Nomads - sindroms - 12-20-2015

To go into a bit more depth on this.

The current engagement test was an interesting experience.

The amount of damage done in New London yesterday propped BAF and HMS indies to plug up every gate, escorting every person to jump into the system with caps so they do not get jumped, all the while constantly warning about the present threat via system chat. Even the Core brought down a battlegroup just to get rid of the threat. It felt like a mini event.

But again, the nomad cloak plays a large part in all of this. A nomad that engages on sight would be a reasonable threat if they were always visible. Perhaps that could be a limitation Huggie should impose on the current members - if you want to use the no-warning approach, no cloak allowed.

Alternatively, modifying the nomad cloak sound into something much more audible and eerie as well as increasing the sound range would allow people to notice the threat a bit better. The ingame needs a outright hostile entitiy, one that if you notice is present would make you run for your life as you know that there is no way you can get out of it by sweettalking people.

RE: Nomads - Doria - 12-20-2015

Well, I have been consistent all over the years on this subject: this is stupid.

Also, when did the k'hara RP change? Uncloaking and instakilling someone is exactly how it is for a very long time now. Only thing you will get is making the players list metagaming skyrocket.

Once, a couple years ago, I had a very nice RP with some k'hara cruiser. None of that nomspeak bs, but also not instakilliing. The feeling of tension was amazing. The thing was toying with me. I tried to comunicate. Then tried to run, it fired a disruptor on me. I tried again, it shot me. I came back. the thing continued "studying me". I felt like an insect being toyed by a cat. THAT was good interaction. Eventually someone appeared and I was able to escape then, since the nomad got distracted. It happened in Tau-37.

Why can't we have more of that, and less of this instakilling bs?
