The problem doesn't lay in us, the problem lies in the people we are contacting with. It's like asking people we know on Facebook to make accounts somewhere else, because we don't want Facebook.

Skype is that aunt you hate but sends some money time to time, making your life a bit easier

I don't even have Skype installed, I'm using the new Skype Web Browser(BETA) and I log in once a week because I don't care much about Skype, I only use it for this game. It has contact list and basic chat tools. Never had any chat delays so far.

RE: Dumping Skype - Mephistoles - 03-18-2016

I have no intention of moving away from Skype.

just an fyi

discord has some really dodgy privacy policies

also the UI is horrible and skype/ts is far more conventient
so it's definitely a no from me.

TS for me is the best communication method .. i will refrain from voting since i don't like both skype and discord

RE: Dumping Skype - SeaFalcon - 03-18-2016

No thanks, although I am in no group chats :o

Having used Discord for almost the past half a year for several things I have just one thing to say:

Yes, it is better than skype. Yes, you should switch.

The only REAL problem with Discord is that it's built on the Electron framework which is occasionally slow to start up - but nowhere near as slow as the new skype. And it's a small price to pay for a system that is constantly updated, robust and extended with new features pmuch every week. And if there's something that enough people want and enough people poke H&C on twitter, it will be added.

More and more people are actually switching to Discord, mostly in the gaming community. I saw that almost all group voice chats on IEM this year ran on Discord, which certainly shows how popular this platform is getting.

@edit:
Also if you don't want to use the voice chats I guess there's an alternative in the form of Slack, but imo discord is much better.

Maybe, because Discord may be indeed useful, but to think about it in a wider approach: why do I need something other than my family, university, workplace, relatives and so on uses already - not to mention, for me at least, I barely see any logic behind using two programs for doing the very same thing? Someone mentioned TS, which, up to this day, I use very scarcely, if ever.

Skype is...well. It's a pile of trash. But it's been significantly less crappy since i figured out how to kill the adverts and therefore reducing the RAM/Data usage it likes to hoard. Honestly, i've used Skype for so long now and changing to something else/getting used to another client is just. Eugh. Unnecessary hassle tbh. However i'll probably look into it for other games, i guess as time goes i can probably phase out Skype but it's not likely to be soon seeing as how i've got more than just disco people linked to that thing.

Edit: The major factor for me is, can this Discord software be used on Android/Other mobile OS's. Since i tend to skype a lot of the time on my phone. Even though the thing murders the battery and i need to have it 'always' plugged in when i'm in the car. Question is, if there is a Mobile version, is it less power sapping?
