I think that pic represents us better. Technically speaking, unless the Brits signed something saying otherwise before we left Earth, we're still a British colony (an independent one, but that answers to the queen nonetheless).

there was a prototype canadian flag I once saw in the archives when doing a history project I really loved... its a bit like our actual one but with the crossed swords and crown insignia of the british empire...
