Tristana Valar -> random female (actually neutral) painting
Howard Henry Taft -> Name based on a Game Grumps joke, picture is the actor of Odo from Deep Space Nine
Kyu Akibara -> random kusari-esque/anime-esque character design, turns out to be from a Final Fantasy game

I usually select actors based on past roles they've performed and how they may fit with the persona of the character in question.
