You are thinking of scanning. Your bubble has been doubled. You do not need to sit together during charge. 3.5 minutes is not a lot, if you consider that you do not need to keep dropping fuel into space. But by all means, feel free to not use the feature, it is up to you. People who can get their head around the usage will find the change a good one.
