https://www.howtogeek.com/howto/windows-vista/add-take-ownership-to-explorer-right-click-menu-in-vista/

add "ownership" to your "right click" then you can rename the gameux.dll to gameux

winrar the original 1st

as i posted, this works

could you show us poor neophyte that we are, the path you have taken, because we act on the register, it's dangerous, ex: i have already deleted GameUX from registry, without any positive résults

maybe step by step.

no problem

click on the link and install the small file that adds into the registry an option that when you "right click" on any file it shows "take ownership"

it then makes that file completely in the control of the current logged in user, as in you

then you just right click again and select rename as i did to "gameux", without the .dll

FL runs 1st time from launcher, no rundll32 in processes, no lag or stutter

Because more people are asking me how to fix it, I edited the OP and renamed the thread. Maybe someone can pin it until devs found a solution that doesn't require use intervention?

RE: How to fix performance issues caused by rundll32.exe/gameux bug - Alley - 06-24-2019

This issue is caused by the recent decomission of the games metaservice. Gameux hangs because it's attempting to connect to a subdomain that no longer exist and it doesn't look like any real failsafe was implemented.
This is limited to Windows 7 and 8. Games Explorer was removed in 2018 from Windows 10.

Fix: Update your OS. Windows 7 is near its end of life.
Alternatively, this guy has you covered with an easy to use bat script: https://ubeogesh-things.blogspot.com/2012/08/resolve-it-finally-game-explorer-aka.html

if i've understood all, your advice is forget your win7, and pass at Win10?

it's simple! we simply have the entire machine to adjust.

it's very long to do, and as i heard, some guys have the problem with win 10 too

what we do? Wink

RE: How to fix performance issues caused by rundll32.exe/gameux bug - Karlotta - 06-26-2019

So far 4 fixes were suggested:

1. Shoot down rundll32 every time it causes problems.

2. Rename or remove gameux

3. Remove a registry entry that starts it.

4. Upgrade your windows to other than 7.

Another 5fth fix could be (dont know how realistic that is) is that someone reports this as a bug to microsoft and microsoft fixes it in the next windows 7 update.

Did you try 1-3 with no luck?

RE: How to fix performance issues caused by rundll32.exe/gameux bug - NoMe - 06-26-2019

the 1 works

if I ever manage to run the machine at 5% it shouldn't be a problem for me, just not 30%, it's annoying, for me and probably it hurts the machine too.

5% is possible, i am! is it stable?

if I ever manage to run the machine at 5% it shouldn't be a problem
for me, just not 30%, it's annoying, for me and probably it hurts the machine too.

I got that by uninstalling programs, which have nothing to do with it in fact! (TOM TOM) gps something

between 3 and 8 % cpu usage is acceptable no much noise etc etc

Ok, i found something and maybe here is the place to speak about it,
A few days ago i started to have CPU usage issues, although i didnt knew what whas causing the usage because it remained even after closing Disco Launcher and Freelancer, so, in search of a solution i started monitoring the processes on my task manager,
after some time i found out that, when you launch the game in the laucher , there is a process created that is named: rundll32.exe*32
its listed as a windows host process, but, in fact its not, if your CPU usage meter is high, go and Terminate this process
you will see your CPU usage meter go down and everything will be working fine.
I dont know if this helps anyone but it did definately help 2 players already.

That is literally the bug this thread is about, yes.

RE: How to fix performance issues caused by rundll32.exe/gameux bug - evanz - 06-26-2019

gameux.dll starts rundll32.exe

rename gameux.dll to just gameux, will stop rundll32.exe from starting, issue over

no need to keep shutting it down, defo no need to do something drastic as "upgrading" to win 10

so the 2 fixes are as follows

1 do the registry edit

2 do the "take ownership" option i stated earlier

thats it, problems over, until Msoft think of another way to push windows 10
