RE: [Dev notice] - Activity wipes - teschy - 07-12-2019 Cool and good. For people complaining about taken ship names, try this: be original. RE: [Dev notice] - Activity wipes - Megaera - 07-12-2019 Good decission. Otherwise, they might be relevant for certain roleplay or lore. There was a time when we didn't need a carrot and a stick from the devs to log our factions, 4.85 was the longest we ever went without the mod receiving an update and it was full of people just playing their roles and having a good time, rather than only logging if they feel like they have something to gain for their spaceboat empire from an event. We're currently stuck in a self perpetuating activity crisis where the community is still quite large, but nobody will play the game because there is nothing to do, and there is nothing to do because nobody will play the game. People are spending all of their time waiting for something to happen rather than making something happen and it sucks. Not to mention the trend amongst many groups of players of spitefully counter-logging people with ships that they are not able to deal with, because forcing opponents to stop playing is more of a priority than creating an engaging interaction. That's pretty harmful to activity too, but a different matter entirely. We can't expect activity to function solely on the backs of motivated players always; people get demotivated, come and go, or simply wish to stop playing that role. I used to be that person but it gets so exhausting when you have to play like a second job to keep things flowing. Certainly in the Omicrons and Omegas at least there is a fundamental lack of good system design to enable activity to exist 'naturally'. It's cancer that kills Discovery but just out of reach of treatment, like an invisible tumor. I really wish there was a proactive approach to stop that. A few things that one could do is contact the other party to balance the fight beforehand, to accept that if you don't do that they'll log anything they have available just like you did, and to not call them cancer because they made no attempt to balance the fight when oneself didn't visibly make one either. Just saying. RE: [Dev notice] - Activity wipes - ~Chio - 07-12-2019 Just appreciate this is a thing now, I don't understand why "rebellion" about this is needed. Civil discussion and consideration does not make a rebellion. The best version of online freelancer is in the form of a sandbox game. Where players use the assets provided as inspiration to set the narrative. There needs to be a clear division between what is decided by development and what is decided by players. The melange of those two entities is what I believe has raised alot of people's suspicions about how the state of play can be changed. Now everybody seeking an advantage over their rivals is piling in on the dev's little boat and end up yelling abuse when they're told it's full. Let the devs do their job. I'd also advise the devs to grow a pair and try a harsh but fair approach to leadership. Right now the community is behaving like the roman senate, seeking to undermine the caesars; deranged by what little power and credit we've been afforded. When in fact we're just the populace. And before i get rinsed, no, i'm not comparing the devs to the caesars in totality. It's just the best example i could come up with.
