problem is, AoM made the fighter line, and to be frank, it's a design I just can't understand. To make a capital ship, you'd need him.

Before everyone goes flagship happy... lets think of a second of who could actually feasibly build such things or want to for that matter? That would only be the houses. They'd have the resources but also the political reasons to posture.
