As mentioned in the discord, you guys would want it to be an all or nothing, and because of that I vote no. Some systems, like Aquitaine, are reasonable changes. Other ones, like California Minor, are less than. But because it's an all-or-nothing and not a all-except-specifics it would mean changing the Omicrons, Rishiri, and Sigma-15 as well. Leaving the Omicrons unchanged because of <reasons> means it isn't an all or nothing and thus others could have stayed as well

The Omicrons were renamed because the old names didn't fit with the Omicron naming scheme and were just a legacy of lazy guard systems. Those name changes were actually a retcon. They're a slightly different issue to renaming systems to account for in-universe changes, such as Nottingham or Exeter.

How do deal with those cases is currently being discussed, but they are a very different situation to the other cases listed in the OP.

More words are being spent on this than it is relevant.

RE: De-Re-Naming - Jeuge - 06-09-2020

It a joke ?

RE: De-Re-Naming - Promotheus - 06-09-2020

Honestly renames should be able to happen, I think the majority of reluctance with some of the current ones is that they felt like they came out of nowhere or were even experienced as undeserved.
Liberty should be able to rename california minor if they want to, I personally prefer the original name but it simply makes sense that they'd have this ability.
Similarly for bases or systems that are totally under a faction/groups undisputed control.

As far as Omicrons go, I prefer the current names as they stick to the naming scheme originally set by vanilla.
Save the numbers for the border worlds.

Naming conventions are something to hold on to, but it should be noted not even the original developers of Freelancer took this as law.
Just look at the New Berlin/Tokyo/London systems, each has a planet named the same, where's planet New York?

All in all I'd honestly prefer some of the names be reverted while for others it makes sense to me that they changed.

RE: De-Re-Naming - Lambda 4 - 06-09-2020

I agree with returning all the names
