RE: [Official Event] Need for Speed II - Sand-Viper - 04-27-2025 Congrats to the Top 3 racers Kilo-3, Juliett-7 and my racing partner Barcode/JadeTornado! I wouldn't mind making this a monthly event (maybe last weekend of every month?). To keep things varied month-to-month, I'd recommend vote-banning whichever two tracks were featured in the previous month. Also, minor let-down regarding the prizes: It didn't feel... Right to me, for the winning team racers to also be eligible for the individual prizes. It would feel more fair to me (for future race events) if winning the big, shiny team grand prize means that they don't qualify for the individual prizes, to prevent double-dipping. Otherwise, it feels like the Top 2 get the Lion's Share, while only one other person gets the scraps. Other than that, I had a heck of a good time! (Shame no one stuck around for post-race RP, though). Thanks again to the Regulancers for joining us Disco dancers out on the race track, and to MIB: Stonks! $$$ What a haul! RE: [Official Event] Need for Speed II - Barrier - 04-27-2025 The results have been posted. The top 3 players and winning team should get in touch with me about rewards. Meanwhile, I'll be collating a list of suggestions and improvements to include in the next racing event. Thanks to everyone who participated! I feel like this could be easily alleviated by introducing rewards for top 3 teams, not just the best one. Team rewards in general will cover more people than individual ones, but especially in the case of a stacked team taking part in the tournament. Also thanks to both participants and Barrier for organizing it. ~ Juliett-7 RE: [Official Event] Need for Speed II - XxSARGExX - 04-29-2025 This Racing Event was more like a proof of concept, meaning the two Championships (Pilots and Team) were more like a test to give a feel for the bigger picture. The question is how to build up a real Grand Prix, because things like Team Championships only work if you have more than just one Season with two tracks. My suggestion: Hosting a real Grand Prix with 6-8 Racing Seasons, one or two seasons each month. Like in the Regulancer (Need for Speed Event we have hosted), each season consists of Warm Up, Qualifying, and Race. Warm up: Free Practice Season, where people have time to join Qualifying: People fight for the best lap time, which decides the starting grid for the race (the Best 3 Pilots will get points for additional motivation) Race: Pilots and Teams will race for points Two Championships: - Pilot (Every Pilot fights for points) - Team (the 2 best Results of the Team will count each season) At the End of the Grand Prix, the winner of both Championships will get a Title and a big Reward. For each Race season, the winner will also get rewards. You can have additional regulations to make the whole Grand Prix more Casual, like if you have 8 Race Events/Seasons, only 6 Results will count, meaning people who can't participate in one or two races have no consequences while people who participate in all seasons can delete two bad results from the board. It's a common practice we used during my Sim-Racing days. In general, to make it competitive, a bit more of real-world racing inspiration seems the right way to organize this, imo. Despite my rant, being with other racers on track simultaneously is another skill to master and requires experience. Overall I liked it, looking forward to the next one! RE: [Official Event] Need for Speed II - XxSARGExX - 05-01-2025 (04-29-2025, 07:12 PM)JadeTornado Wrote: Things I disliked: This point is not true. In real-world motorsport like Formula 1, DTM, 24h of Nürburgring, and so on, or in other words, Sprint or Endurance formats running with a Qualifying Season, where all Cars run on the same Track. The Teams and Drivers need to find the right way to join the track and need to find the right setup and tire temperature to go for a Hot Lap. In short, it's coordination. If were are too many cars for the track, like you have during the 24h races, you have multiple seasons for different groups of teams and drivers. In fact, you are never alone on the track, even in qualifying, there is competition . In general, you only have one single Qualification season for you as a driver. And this Qualification decides where you will start in the real race. BUT... During this event, much stuff has been done to keep Time standings in check. The solution was not the best, but currently, there is no technical solution to have a command, for example, that says/race grand prix or /race qualifying. Much stuff has been done manually and in smaller controlled ways, meaning that, imo, there needs to be a technical solution to track times and hosting real qualifying seasons without the need for a host taking a few racers with him/her to start a race for monitoring the times of everyone. RE: [Official Event] Need for Speed II - Barrier - 05-01-2025 So to respond to some of the feedback and suggestions: - team rewards will be expanded past the first place, but these will accumulate across a whole season. That means the first team will likely still get a huge reward, but the others will be able to collect stuff too - individual rewards will be reworked a bit. For example, I'm considering disallowing the previous top 3 from receiving individual prizes in the next month's race. So they can still score and enjoy their top spot on the leaderboard, but won't be eligible for the individual rewards that month - my sense right now is that we will have a season consisting of 6 races every month, but only the top 5 team scores will count at the end. Combined with the above incentive structure, competition should be fierce, but plenty of people can still try it out and hopefully improve - the qualification phase was a bit mishandled. What I should have done is simply had everyone join on me and set the limit to 1000 laps. People would then be able to race at any point during the qualification period, and I would still be able to see everyone's best lap. I should say that making it purely individual is basically impossible within the constraints of a time-limited event, and imo it's much less interesting. Sure, someone can screw up a few of your laps, but on the whole you should be able to set a time that's close to your best over the course of the whole 20-30 minutes (TBD) of qualifications. Personally, I also find it quite boring to watch a single racer on the track - I'd rather people save that for the speedrun style leaderboards - the main event phase was better, but I wasn't clear that unlike in the qualification, you want to actually finish the race as fast as possible. That means your total time is what's relevant, instead of the best lap. To me this is ideal over the course of a long season, because every single time matters - you want to maximize your team's score even if you know you will finish second, third, etc. individually - I was a bit overwhelmed, but with everything basically improved and streamlined, I think one person can still do it, though two is better (one announcer/commentator, and one tech support person). It may not always be me, but things should run pretty smoothly with sufficient prior set-up I'll be organizing a racing discord to further improve things and organize stuff better. I hope you guys will be willing to assist with some of the organizational and content creation, and discuss more things there
