Transport Turrets, Gunboat Turrets and... Liner Turrets - Unseelie - 07-08-2009 Why is it that Traders should fly in packs, rather than pirates? Thats simply pirate bias, and nothing more. The suggestion that on a 200 player server, with a map and wealth of systems the size that we have, that Capships or transports, or anyone else, for that matter, should fly in groups or with escorts ignores the fact that we simply don't have enough people to do that even most of the time. Hence why Bombers and GBs are so prevalent for piracy: Lone pirates can successfully (pretty much 100% of the time) pirate in them, and if you can't find a friend (face it, a lot of the time you cannot) then that's paramount. The lesson is, Transports lose every fight. And you're telling me that I, as a transport captian, don't deserve a chance at coming out of a pirate encounter on the winning side? Lets recap: I'm flying a big, heavy ship, on long, drudgerous voyages, Pointing and clicking my way into cash which feeds piracy, feeds factions, buys new players full loads of cargoes, or buys people who've lost everything back into the game. It gets sucked up by admins into Faction proposals, drawn off into development, and squandered anytime anyone wants to switch ships. The credits I earn fund all of these operations, they buy the pirate's ships and guns, they feed their children, in the rp, and they bleed into bounties and merc jobs. Sure, I get a good measure of fun out of the rp itself, but these ships are not particluarly great. They're frustrating in any sort of PVP encounter, and its a PVP game. And you're telling me I deserve that? That its "fine, really" And asking me to believe that? You're full of it. Transport Turrets, Gunboat Turrets and... Liner Turrets - dr lameos - 07-08-2009 I have a prison liner, and what I lack to understand is, that it's the same size as a luxury liner, but has less guns and less armour. Sure it costs less to purchase, HOWEVER, it also has 1200 less cargo... Furthermore, as it clearly has less comfort, and less cargospace, surely it'd have plenty of space for MORE armour and a bigger powercore? Oh yeah sorry, I know logic isn't supposed to exist in Freelancer... Transport Turrets, Gunboat Turrets and... Liner Turrets - Benjamin - 07-08-2009 I'd say it's the 3000-range transports who have the best shout at getting a stat boost. The big 5ks should definitely be the most vulnerable, otherwise why would anyone fly the others, which have a lot of character imo. (Behemoth sattelite ftw) Transport Turrets, Gunboat Turrets and... Liner Turrets - Ogris - 07-08-2009 You're saying your loosing to a VHF and a LF in a liner/Btrans? Umm, Those things have enough power to nearly SOLO A GUNBOAT. If you need more power than that, something is wrong, they can even survive a pirating bomber... not to mention the liner has CD so it can escape. How would factions IRP waste as much money on a transport as they would on a cruiser? I don't think that they would spend money shoving weapons on a transport, as it is INSANELY more cost effective to outfit a few fighters rather then adding more and more to a transport. And yes, i fly a Shire, so i know what it feels like to have a powerfull transport, and i'm saying they need a nerf rather than a boost, i dont expect my civilian-grade ship to beat military-grade ships, it's just unrealistic. It can already hold off a fighter or 3, or a bomber, does it really need to do more than that? "Get Escorts" is seriously what i suggest, even as an indie trader, i can just ask some people if they want to convoy/join their convoy, if you trade alone, you're begging to be pirated, fly in a convoy; And do a bit of RP talking, it'll make the trading more interesting in the long run... Transport Turrets, Gunboat Turrets and... Liner Turrets - AdamantineFist - 07-08-2009 Personally I'm for a buff to transport weapons. As it is, it's rather difficult indeed to hit anything smaller than another transport or a gunboat, let alone kill it. They'd better be getting either some speed ups or damage ups, as I believe that they are sorely in need of both. Transport Turrets, Gunboat Turrets and... What else do you people want? It's already extremely hard to pirate in a VHF, but possible. Small buff there and it'll be absolutely impossible. That's what all you supporters here are trying to achieve. Transport Turrets, Gunboat Turrets and... Liner Turrets - schlurbi - 07-08-2009 The slave Liner is a Beast. Liner Turrets - Eppy - 07-08-2009 ' Wrote:Right now, the only thing transports can do effectively, or with any real usefullness, is trade. Frankly, trading -isn't- that great. Its nessisary. Its only nessisary. It hauls in the biggest profits, its at the bottom of the food chain, etc, etc, etc. Nothing else compares to them in the job, but frankly? Nothing else cares to try, because its a job that -sucks-. Make transports more fun, and you'll see more of them. This is a space fighting game. Things that can't fight, are not fun. BEING A DEFENSLESS TARGET SUCKS. I'm just going to post this part again because I think it's quite brilliant and I didn't say it, which means it has more credibility. (Behemoth sattelite ftw) I'm of the oppinion that the 4-5k transports are the pinnical of tradeships, and should be shown as such across the entire board of their stats, because of the vast change in price from a 3k transport to a 4-5k transport, but I still feel like -all- transports deserve a boost. Freighters should be about the same strength as fighters, and transports should be poor man's gunboats(the 2-4k ones), and poor man's cruisers. The suggestion that Transports shouldn't be able to stand up to military hardware, that they're civilian ships, sort of assumes pirates have the same sort of funding as house militaries, that they are, actually, military hardware, rather than hardware bought and payed for off of the proceeds of predating Corporations. Furthermore, the suggestion that there is any sort of 'civilian', and nonmilitary, hardware floating around the starlanes of Sirius is a naive idea of what its really out there. You do -not- float a 200 million credit ship that can be torn down by one that costs 20, or 30, or 50 million, especially when that ship is likely to be hauling up to 20 million -more- credits in its hold. Civilian grade/military grade is a construct which can be applied any which way, to make many ships weaker. The suggestion that Corporations deserve weaker ships because they're not militaries...Well, pirates aren't militaries either, and if they have military ships, its a waste and disgusting to use them for any other purpose than fending off the great militaries of space. If you decline to make the distinction between the House militaries, and the House police, or the House Militaries and the Pirates, then how dare you make it between the pirates and the corporations? Your VHF cost you an hour or two of mindless trading. My transport cost me TEN, so excuse me for being indignant while you wipe the floor with me. Get a buddy. You'll find its more fun if you have a friend. Transport Turrets, Gunboat Turrets and... Liner Turrets - Bogenschutz - 07-09-2009 ' Wrote:Yes, actually. You'll find its more fun if you have a friend. With armor upgrades and codes, it cost me around 60 million and I don't wipe floor with Transports, pirating in VHF = very long chases, so long that people often manage to reach the nearest lawful base, dock with it and undock fully fresh and resupplied. I also possess a big expensive transport. That's how I earned those 60 million. I do a lot of trading and I encounter pirates every day. It just wouldn't feel right for my transport to be superior or equally effective in combat as pirate ships. "Get a buddy" works in a theory, not when you really need him/her. |
