Well more seriously, Cannon, the bug might comes from the straff engines. It's increasing our speed even if it's just a little (we only see it significantly with the camera-ship).
You have the same forward speed but the straffe comes in addition of it. That's how a camera ship can go faster than cruise engines without cruise.
