Help me see the light, don't see the 'fun' in this game - jammi - 09-02-2009 Adding to MavinCZ's list on factions, I present Point Three: 3) A player's actions and conduct precedes them. If you've been acting in a bad way, don't expect to be accepted into a faction by any right minded leader. If your actions are going to tarnish the group's credibility as a whole and drag it's name through the mud, they're not going to touch you. Not eliteism, but common sense. Also, if we fail to help you see the light, are you going to leave? Just an innocent question there. If your goal is simply to get the big shiny battleships & the high levels, then, once you have them, you will discover how empty & anti-climactic it is. If you got everything you wanted within a week, what would you do with it all...once you have it all? Your priorities need to change if you ever expect to have any real fun here. When you sign on to the game, think of it like stepping onto a stage. Stop thinking about the gear you want to end up with & put more thought into the character that you play as. Don't get me wrong, I was new here once & I drooled over the idea of owning a big a** Battlestar & spent oodles of time saving up to buy one. During that time, I slowly started to understand the point of RP the more I interacted with others. You don't have to be good at it to begin having fun, but you do need to try your best to play a role & concentrate more on the journey & not the destination. I've been here for over 2 years & in that time I have earned enough credits to buy a fleet of the Battlestars I originally wanted, but to date, I've never purchased a single one of 'em, because I eventually developed a number of fully realized characters, found my niche on the server, & none of them ever needed ships like that. This mod has never been about the ships and the gear mounted on them, but about the role of the pilot you choose to play...so, once you get the hang of that, you will ethier have fun & stay...or remain bored & leave. This is a game where anybody can come in and prove themselves better than somebody whose been here for ages. It all just depends on how quickly your imagination was replaced by hitting right trigger. Help me see the light, don't see the 'fun' in this game - DaBoss - 09-02-2009 For what its worth I'd like to add something. I play 3 different Disco servers at the moment. The main disco server is where I like to build my emire if you will , I dont particularly care if it takes me 2 mnths or 2 years. If I want action I jump into my Corsair GB or my OC HF and Rp the hell out of them. If I wanna make some cash I jump into my Trader and run a nice long route that offers me some variety , sightseeing and some rp interaction. If I really wanna be bored and playing I jump onto the Uk disco server and mine some Niobium or scrap metal as I have another char there that i'm slowly building up , mostly when the main disco server is too full and I cant get in. Another option if you're getting bored with disco is some other mods. Crossfire in particular is great fun and has some really unique stoies and systems to explore. Just be warned . Crossfire is much more difficult to play than disco. another cool mod , and especially if you like PVP action and interaction is the BSG mod. Those folks like to shoot the crap out of eachother. Bit too easy to make money there though., if you learn the tricks that is. Only problem there very limited star systems to explore. In a nutshell : FL can offer many alternatives to disco , although in my experience disco still offers me personally the most long term enjoyment and satisfaction of all the mods. Crossfire kept me busy for about 8 months. Disoc I've been playong for 2 years , not continuously , and FL in total for about 4 years. Sure I played things like Crysis and Warhead , Lost Planet , Fuel , C&C and some others , but FL keeps me coming back 4 more. Another fun game you can try is Evochron Renegades btw. Not bad at all , but still nowhere near FL for sheer gameply fun. That about enough said? :rtfm: Help me see the light, don't see the 'fun' in this game - DaBoss - 09-02-2009 Oh. Sorry for all the spelling and grammar mistakes. I'm typing in the dark...lol. Point is have fun . Help me see the light, don't see the 'fun' in this game - Taffic - 09-02-2009 I've been here 2 years & I've only just started experimenting with Bombers & Transports; but that's 'cause we're empire building. In another 2 years I might get a gunboat; not very good at empire building. Me personally I like to pit my wits against others & usually adopt the role of the underdog as that's more challenging. For example, I only pirate in a freighter & I am often pushing my luck with more powerful organisations. I also have a Liberty Rogue Mule that potters about - I can afford a better ship, but I enjoy the novelty of playing in something crap & ugly. I do think Marburg's post is very valid & having the ability to blow the crap out of something easily gets dull quick. Its a game & if you're not enjoying it, change what you're doing. People wo take i at face value scoff at it and avoid it, or do it out of neccesity. But if you really dedicate yourself to it, you will find it is so much more than the stereotype |
