The very words contradict each other.
The same can be said for the Civilian Bomber. Why would a civilian need a bomber? To protect oneself against pirate capital ships and such. Besides, factions other than civilians use the civilian line. A civilian gunship would be able to be used by those factions who don't have a shipline, can't afford to make a gunship, or can't use another factions within RP.

I actually prefer the look of the first one, it looks like it has a lot of "Eagle" in it's ancestry.
As for it being too 'flat', have a good look at the IMG 'Hydra' GB next time you see one, those are pretty flat imo.
What is the size of the original model against say the Libby GB or Dread? Maybe if we could see what it looks like against an ingame ship, a better comparison could be made....

If any corporation is to make a civilian line gunship - it should be Renzu Corp.
They made the old Talarca Light Cruiser (too popular for its own good) - so it makes sense they would be looking for a ship to sell to the same market.

The original model is, to my eyes, stunningly beautiful. Please don't abandon it - it reminds me of the Cobra Mk III from Frontier Elite - http://elite.acornarcade.com/ims/ships/cobraiii.png
I would drop everything and switch to whatever faction got that ship like a shot, no matter what kind of ship it turned out to be.
As for the reworked version... forget about trying to make it slender, it looks much better as a "flattened" ship in this man's humble opinion.
