One faction per ID? we got a lil sair problem - Walker - 12-05-2010

I have a concern.

Would this not simply guarantee too much power in the hands of existing official factions?

For example, a faction like the LN would likely suffer from the offset of various Splinter Groups. However factions with large ZoI's namely Pirates would of course benefit from this.

However, the 101st who never leave Omicron Alpha hold the Official status and the ID. The "Scourge of the Tau" unofficial faction would then hold no real goal at all, since the 101st would never, unless a miracle happened, give up their Official status for the Scourge of the Tau Outcasts to become official.

What happens then to unofficial factions? There are only so many ID's and factions there. A completely unique and original idea for a faction is also hard to come by, and universally usable ID's like the Freelancer ID, Pirate ID, etc... Are highly restrictive and sometimes not a good fit, though it might be the only thing they can use.

Now that I think about this though; If the Scourge of the Tau's wanted to become official, could they not simply request their own ID?

Ugh, I hate the "one faction per ID" rule.

I find the fact that a single faction, which may or may not cover all aspects of the faction, or have all aspects of the faction in their best interest, can command complete control over the faction's direction.

Also, the issue of faltering activity and/or competency within a single official faction is one which may become a serious issue, in the near future.

you hate it? then be happy that you are not in corsair council chat.... sometimes it is nightmare when we need to decide on something and all have different opinion:)

but to topic,,, well new id can be maked only with new mod version or no?
what about making some IDs, that will be something as little better as npc faction ID? i mean for example corsair elite guard ID or something like that... which will give some privileges to faction that can not be official but are really good in rp and so.

you dont really need to be official to have fun, you know. and with time and good manners, your UNofficial faction might gain status among the official ones, without having a CAU8 given to you.
