Possible solution to metagaming - Enoch - 04-16-2011 ' Wrote:Thats why its called discovery. What exactly reflects the player list in the ingame reality? SiriusBook online?Ingame reality ? Nice one. As it was already mentioned, it's not about realism. It's about gameplay. If you want a realistic game, NPCs would be as strong as player controlled ships and once your ship destroyed it's gone for good. Great fun. Possible solution to metagaming - coffee - 04-16-2011 No They have TLAGSNET I have the chat Fair play Edit: No lane-travelling for the unlawful "traders" so it gives me a chance to plan my route Possible solution to metagaming - Primitive - 04-16-2011 ' Wrote:If discovery had less systems I would say yes. This, if our 200 players would be in A LOT less systems, then you could even remove whole list. With things as they are now the merc/bounty hunting/trading/pirating/even lawful system of bumping to one another and shooting each other would get impossible. Possible solution to metagaming - Jack_Henderson - 04-16-2011 ' Wrote:Interested in roleplay? Then in-rp,you should NOT be able to find people using chat windows. When I log onto a roleplay, I don't want to search for charcters to play with by flying through a sector. I take a look at the "Who is online", see whether there are people in the systems that I like to play in, and then log on or not. And yes, I am metagaming, but with the intention to provide and get roleplay, without wasting precious time for writing tons of oorp requests "//hey, where are you?". Sirius is already way too big. Now let players look for others to interact and you will have even less interaction left in a game in which there is already not enough player-player interaction. Possible solution to metagaming - Vladimir - 04-16-2011 On the other hand, give us server with 1000 people online at any time and i'll be all for it. Until then... zzz Possible solution to metagaming - Jeryl - 04-16-2011 ' Wrote:When I log onto a roleplay, I don't want to search for charcters to play with by flying through a sector.See,you don't want to ask people for interaction, you have demonstrated somethings negative.:P //Hey,I don't want to tell you, don't feel like rp now. And by that logic,I could 'hack' all the comm channel threads and post there without invitation,BECAUSE I WANT TO RP WITH YOU.I am metagaming but I do so just cuz you are cool to roleplay with and I want to do it with you. Possible solution to metagaming - Madvillain - 04-17-2011 voted no because it would make disco very boring Possible solution to metagaming - Jihadjoe - 04-17-2011 Doing this would not solve metagaming. Metagaming goes a lot further than people doing the comparatively minor and convenience-based 'crime' of looking at the player list. Metagaming consists of many things. I tend to get rather more annoyed about people's characters miracolously knowing the contents of highly encrypted messages and so on. Looking at the chat window to determine what system someone is in, is really not the highest priority in ending metagaming. Possible solution to metagaming - Dane Summers - 04-17-2011 I have to say its tempting - i always feel like people intentionally avoid systems im in, and people i run into usually avoid me because i pirate, thinking im like the other pvp gaggle of "5mil or die" crowd. but it hasnt been all bad. as i said, i wouldnt mind something that didnt allow you to see where everyone was at, but it would only give the jerk pirates more power to be jerks Possible solution to metagaming - Taffic - 04-17-2011 ' Wrote:Doing this would not solve metagaming. Metagaming goes a lot further than people doing the comparatively minor and convenience-based 'crime' of looking at the player list.I think compassisons deflect from the central theme of this topic. There are all sorts of metagaming (such as using wiki to find worm hole) & I am certain that we all do it to a greater or lesser extent. Chat window abuse is certainly not the worst metagaming abuse, but it is one of easist to resolve. |
