Alaska has obvious roleplaying advantages, but the practical ones outweigh them.
I could see Alberta being the LSF guard system, but not Ontario. The Liberty jump hole system was designed in the original game with the NY to Magellan jump gate in mind. Since that is closed in Disco ( and for good practical reasons, I think ) Ontario is very important for cutting some time off getting from CO to Bretonia.
Minnesota is another good option, and I think is even highly preferable to Alberta from my point of view.
For those who don't know, Minnesota is directly accessible from the Texas system, and is the start of a bypass to the New Berlin System. The RM guard system (or is it the Rheinland police?) is at the other end of the bypass.
