I dont trust people with a generic pirate ID, let alone a mercenary.
mercenaries out there: unless you are working for the UOG, you most certainly can NOT dock on arranmore, infact, if you come into the molly asteroid field, we will shoot you, no questions asked.

I reckon, the ID should state that a player using a merc ID must have a IFF, then must use weaponary and equiptment from that faction, after all you can have mercs from Kusari, Rhineland, Liberty, Bretonia, Crete, Malta or anyplace with people, so they would retain their cultural background right?

Nah, I don't get the Zoner tag to be honest.
Zoner mercenaries (if there is such class at all) are much more likely to do for Outcasts/Hackers/Corsairs etc then for House militaries.
Houses have BHG, why would they need some Zoners? They don't even trust the Zoners.
Not to speak about Inferno + Coladas while working for lawfuls.

but then - its prolly both sides fault. why do the lawfuls pay him? or acknolege his achievements for them. if they ignored him or even yelled at him, he would maybe change. - but as long as they treat him as a friend, there is - from the point of the character - not much reason to change.
so, the lawfuls that pay him or endure him should make sure that he is equipped within whats "appropriate". from what i know - he works for the liberty law enforcements. if they would tell him to leave with that kind of messed up tag/ID/gear... he d soon think about it.
if they don t, ... well, there s hardly a problem then.

I agree Jinx. As Mjonlir said, Mercenaries with unlawful equipment are escorted out of Rheinland, while Liberty hires them all the time.

Actually, Liberty Authorities are more to blame then himself.

All the nasty laws and licenses, but they are still hiring Mercs with unlawful ships/equipment.

that is somewhat why i "respect" rheinland more than liberty atm ( in a roleplay sense, not a personal ooRP one ) - but laws in rheinland are based on RP and are enforced in RP, which i do like - even if i disagree with some in RP.:)( errr.. complicated much )
liberty laws appears sometimes like made to counter ooRP problems with ooRP measures, while not being consequently enforced. - but then... they have a totally different situation there - and who knows how rheinland would do, if rheinland was the starting system. - so no one to blame here.

The problem of unlawful mercs being hired by lawful clients would be solved if you immplemented the IFF system, that would also stop the merc ID being used as a 'get out of jail free' card for RP. I mean, a Breatonia tagged merc couldn't just wander into Kusari and expect to get away with it... Unless he was raiding or somesuch...

k to state this clear:
1= im that guy.
2= got all the guns from a weapon dealer.
3= ship i officialy got from bruce willis.
4= that zoner tag yes, it wasnt ment to be zoner tagged, i was to lazy to get less rep with zoners. and ill change it emmediatly now.
5= i wouldnt be in a bomber if you'all didnt chased me out of my lib xD
EDIT: and what this lawfull contracts are about.
first i was against them, then we got a contract after many fights we had.

I will go make a Merc character that flies Praetorian with an Inferno and Kusari guns and works for Bretonia in hunting Gaians.
And everything will be fine...
