Police factions - Mímir - 02-08-2012 Indeed it is. Gendarmerie is organized as a hybrid between military and police, and is not just a police unit with military training OR a military unit with police tasks such as the ones you see in other places. Moreover a particular French (and thus Gallic) inclination towards being arrogant AND having a radically different approach to colonization than just money, points towards a GRP that operates slightly different than police in other houses. Furthermore, the other houses have been in touch with each other since forever and had tonnes of border disputes, so policing border areas - and thus challenging soverignity of the adjoining house - is a direct route to more disputes. And the houses in Sirius are pretty much established and have nothing to gain from starting minor border disputes which might lead to all out (and very costly) wars. Gallia is different again by being so dominantly aggressive, not really caring if they offend someone or some house might turn even more hostile towards Gallia than they are already. EDIT: Sorry it wasn't my intention. I'll edit that bit out of the previous post. Police factions - casero - 02-08-2012 I know that Gendarmerie is not police or military. We have Gendarmeria (spanish) here in Argentina, and I'm thinking that every country probably has more organizations than police, military, secret agencies, I'll search for some examples of that to apply in Liberty, Bretonia, Kusari and Rheinland. If I can find such examples, would it be justified for those Police factions to go there? Also, in any case, shouldn't be there a Gendarmerie ID? Police factions - Mímir - 02-08-2012 Well I think the Disco / Freelancer way of doing it is convoluting actual historical things - i.e. who were the first to do something (or the ones to be known for it) in the real world. That is why Liberty is uber capitalist, even though we see a lot of countries with just as big a stress on the interests of capital in other places in the (real) world. And that is why Gallia has the gendarmerie when others do not. Also don't forget the fact that policing an area means holding sovereignity over that area - Bretonia might feel a bit offended by Liberty suddenly displaying sovereignity over Cortez or Magellan, for instance, which would lead to tensions and possible all out war. That is another reason why the other houses in Sirius have a strict divition of labour between military and police. Police factions - Narendran87 - 02-08-2012 ' Wrote:And how about OORPly? Alright I think you are getting it the wrong way.... Gallia House law's Applies it house laws to these areas. So Police is the main to keep up the laws... Therefore They patrol leeds and taus... Taus has been conquered anyway to a great extent... But Gallia has too many resources to impose its laws over a large area. and LPI is a private corp. so dont mix it with usual police factions.... I agree with you that each house is known for one special thing, but being uber capitalist or uber xenophobic doesn't affect the in game activity to those factions. In fact, being extremely xenophobic (as the lore indicated) made of kusari a pretty empty place, and kinda leaded KSP to its extintion. Police factions - Mímir - 02-08-2012 Politically it would stir up a hornet's nest in Sirius - lead to border disputes and the likes. It just won't fly. The only border dispute that could begin is between Kusari and Liberty. The treaty of Curacao between Bretonia and Liberty already covers Magellan and Cortez. Sigma 13 is under GMG control, so that leaves Kusari and Rheinland out of it. The Taus are under Gallia's control. Bering and Hudson are in the middle of Liberty-Rheinland war. And if Liberty and Kusari wants to start disputes about Galileo and Kepler, so be it. I'm sure that kusari people are dying to have some political action. We also provide reinforcements for GRN forces in Leeds when needed, a Gendarmerie is a military force afterall.Wat. Whenever I've seen you guys, it's been in a group of three, sat on the trade lane between Stokes and Glasgow.
