This is not charity, most people play this game for fun. ^ Here is someone who has been on the receiving end of swarms more times then I can fathom. He's still alive and kicking with all the flashy lights and stuff. Sometimes you can even survive such an event  Ganking - Trogdor - 04-18-2012 There's no attachment to your dude in first person shooters. Also if you're getting ganked in a fps GET SKILLZ NUB ;) Ganking - Razr - 04-18-2012 ' Wrote:I've been ganked by Ryummel, SeaFalcon, Joe, Dubstep and Ench, too many times to count. Not all at once you understand, one a time... because they're that much better than me. "Gank" is merely a term for unfair fight. And sure some fights are unfair. Some fights should be. One versus one isn't really a gank, I would consider a gank a fight that is "unfair" due to advantages the side abusing has actual control of. One's skill or lack of isn't under anyone's control but your own, to claim that someone ganked you simply because of a skill deficit is rather silly, unless they somehow control how good you are or are not. Personally, I don't care if someone out numbers me 6 to 1 or chases my Eagle with a battleship. The only time I will have an issue with it is if I know they would cry being on the receiving end, but actually the mindset that you need to outnumber someone to beat them when they are commonly known as one of the better pvpers is one of the things that keeps a lot of people from improving. Ganking - Reverend Del - 04-18-2012 I think you missed my point, razr. It's an unfair fight, simply because I'm effectively waiting to die, no matter how hard I try. IF I want to win I have to have support, only way to do it. Is that bad? No. Are the situations you're describing bad? Not in and of themselves. Long and short of it is that unfair fights happen, sometimes there is nothing that can be done about them, it's something that cannot be remedied without a definite increase in skill by one side. Fair play should always be considered, if you fight me, make it quick, eh? Ganking - Razr - 04-18-2012 I didn't miss the point, I was simply wondering how something that is something within your control as opposed to someone Else's is an unfair advantage to you, just because it's not in your favor? Never did I state it was bad, just a varying opinion on the legitimacy of using the word 'gank' to describe a loss as a result of a skill deficit. Ganking - Fifty. - 04-18-2012 I used to whine about such things but it's pointless. I realized you won't get fair fights every time. So yeah, voting the second thingie. Ganking - Slartibartfast - 04-18-2012 Meh, I guess I don't mind it much. I'm used to being "ganked" and it can be fun even. I get bored stiff very quickly if I'm on the "ganking" side though. I'll much rather give the opposition a fair fight any time. Ganking - Jihadjoe - 04-18-2012 My opinion is extremely mixed. It all depends on the situation. Ganking - Ceoran - 04-18-2012 ' Wrote:The general sense I get of the community's attitude is "everything is fine, expect when it is happening to me", correct? Of course. The average member of this community treats the rest no better than they'd treat the NPCs. Yet easily yells 'ganking' if they are on the other side on the table. Double-standards like that make any attempts of promoting fairplay useless. On topic, I voted: Quote:I belive ganking should only be done in special circumstances. (explane?) Base defense & home system defense. Those occur rather often though, so "special circumstances" might be giving the wrong impression. One than that I personally would go for mostly even fights. For one it increases the challenge and secondly it also increases my own chance of getting a kill. If 15 people are shooting one target, only one will in the end kill it. And also getting ganked to an extend where all you can do is evading is no fun for the receiving end. That however results in the question whether a 2 on 1 or 3 on 1 situation, where you sure are able to shoot back, is a gank or not. |
