I gotta disagree w/ ya Steel...

It's impossible to shelter everyone.

Back to the 'Goram' example: The word itself is not vulgar in the least. Now that it's clear that goram is a replacement for g*dda*n does that now make the word vulgar?

....no.

If someone now finds the word offensive, it's no one's fault but their own.

We for the greater part already know where the lines are drawn, & replacement words are the compromise.

There are a number of people in the world that find nudity offensive, & also find bikinis offensive because they show alot of skin...does that make the garment itself offensive? or is it just simply in the eye of the beholder?

Should I refrain from using the word 'fudge' because someone somewhere may be offended by the process of 'going number 2'?

...Sometimes a cigar is just a cigar.

As a junker, 'scrap' is a perfect replacement word for 'crap' when swearing! It fits them quite well.

And I've been known to use gorram from time to time...

Swearing Clarification - AdamantineFist - 04-29-2008

I dunno... saying "dang you to heck" just doesn't feel quite right...

Swearing Clarification - ryoken - 04-30-2008

Swearing Clarification - AdamantineFist - 04-30-2008

Swearing Clarification - Tyranidlord - 04-30-2008

hmmm... well i use these ones myself a fair bit, and there should be a few people recognising some of these...

- Feth
- Frak
- Frag
- Blarg, Blarg, Honk?

also, is 'bloody', as is 'bloody hell' considered to be swearing? otherwise i'll haveto tone down my Aussie style of speaking online...

Swearing Clarification - Boss - 04-30-2008

Yeah....I use 'bloody" a lot on my chars.

The only chars I have that don't swear/get exceedingly frustrated and/or show it in some way/shape/form are GJ, he's an AI, isn't much one for emotion, Avenger, who is a cybernetics experiment gone wrong, and Shadow, who's another experiment.

Actually, a good rule would be "If they say it in SP, you can say it here."

Kinda works, right? Kinda?
