Nope they are great...at killing VHFs and bombers. Reason why you don't see them so much is that in most fights(unless they are pre-planned) a capship comes at some point. Then a group of 3LFs is doomed even against a single GB. They are very good as escort for transport - keeping the pirate vhf/bomber busy until the transport gets to cruise. And a 2 LFs + 2 bomber combination can be really deadly as well. On the other hand they are basically the most difficult shipclass to fly and the most unforgiving to error. All in all, they are fine. I see LPI players in their patriots chasing outcast destroyers and lane hacker spyglasses away from manhattan all the time =P the little buggers are so frustrating to try and shoot at that they force the capship flyer to just leave the area :laugh: Ok... ship balancing - Treewyrm - 06-03-2008 Forget about machine gun type of guns. They generate massive lag and pose a threat to server stability. Instead use variety in firing ranges and projectile speed. It is just that the choice is maybe limited ? Don't want to reactivate the issue LF+Corsair. I see the Liberator, Hussar, Arrow, Tiger shark, Scimitar, Loki as effective and not buged LF. Am i wrong ? i'd like to see one alternative to the Tiger Shark because his texture and the gun position make him look ugly. I heard the Griffin is less manoeuvrable than the Eagle. I dunno, i'm just pushing the idea without real flying experience except with the Arrow which remains my favorite ship among all ships on Disco. I just imagine one more class8 gun for an Adv. Well really... even 8.33 firing speed weapons dont cause -that- much lag, plenty of people are using them here already, they'd just need a different projectile effect - more like the kusari photon blasters. Phantom, Wyrm, Scimitair are all good LFs as well, Slipstream is very good but has bugged hitbox. I never flew the Sea Serpent (BHG LF) maybe the only ship in the game I didn't fly;)But according to stats it should not be good. Hyena, Griffin, Decurion and possible Sea Serpent need an upgrade. Not so few choices. The game is not designed for high refire rate weapons. Just because you can do them doesn't mean you should do that, and in fact you shouldn't - reasons are stated above. Freelancer traces projectiles unlike massive multiplayer games. Each projectile fire instance creates data to be transmitted across network to all players in range of visibility. Add tracing procedures on top of it, collision detection and so on. Each ship can have several such weapons. Plenty of people might not make things bad at first look, because it isn't plenty really, just a few and far in between. But lot of people with lots of those guns - now that's a problem growing exponentially. Large fights already by far are quite laggy, Freelancer isn't scaled up to that kind of things, making things worse even slightly must just be the nail in the coffin. Think about consequences first. Ok... ship balancing - frozen - 06-03-2008 the LPI have upgraded to liberators, just so you know. which means they can use debs to strip shields. as to your idea of having a gb that deals only with gbs, well, i dunno where you been living mate, but liberty consists of nothing but gbs 'specialized' to take out fighters and bombers, what with all of them aving an average of 3-6 missile turrets and a roleplay that involves eating xenos (who fly vanillay fighters, incidently, and are restricted to fighters/bombers at that) all the changes you state will not work, since freelancer does not have any principles that are even remotely close to what you have suggested. its a game, with alot of the stuff is made up. you really think that all the stuff you said there is actually guna work? a LF can take out a a HF, a VHF, a bomber, in a 1v1. right, but we are not talking about 1v1s. in a fleet battle, 3 LFs, can rip a gb up. easy. a bomber can take out every ship class. on its own, it can take out everything but a bs, but there again, the pilot has to be seriously, exceptionally good. otherwise, poof go your dreams of pwning a gb/cruiser in a 1v1. a bomber will find it -really- hard to take out a LF, purely because, if a LF utilizes its agility in the correct manner, it would become untouchable. then i see you talk about how 2 fighters and a bomber manage to take out many of Liberty's caps. firstly, it requires practice. the people you fight aint a bunch of noobs, they fly ships that a specialised to take out cap ships in the first place. a gb will always win in a 1v1 against a bomber, but only if the gb pilot knows how to fly. its more than easy to dodge like... 8/10 sn shots in a gb, even if ure an average pilot. there is gb spam on both the liberty side, AND the indy pirate side. the HF (the faction i lead with Razr) has got its caps, but they havent seen action. infact, they havent even left vespucci to fight, save for 1 time, i took the goldenflame out to do a bit of roleplay. the LH use their fighters and bombers mostly, with the occasional LF and transports. to put things in context, lesse. the last time i went to Liberty on my HF bomber, along with 2 more fighters, and joined by a second bomber about halfway into the fight, we faced, 2 bcs, 4 gbs, 3 bombers, 7 fighters, 1 cruiser (these are all lawful/bh ships), then, the xenos come in 2 bombers and 3 fighters, and we get help from a hacker gunship, with 6 missile turrets. -.- so all in all, including my rant, i say a bit no to anything you have suggesting in this post.
