My thoughts concerning factions/Indies and other such stuff. - BaconSoda - 06-25-2008

Another fundamental part of this argument is form what perspective do we look at it from? We have the perspective of the player in a gaming sense, and then we have the perspective of the characters in an RP sense. We have arguments form both sides, and until we decide on which perspective it is that we should argue form, we'll never solve this "problem."

Well...let's go with the character side. Because that way the faction leaders (Grand-Ultimate-Pwner-System Pwning-Fleet-Superuber Admirals) can simply tell the independents (privates) to shut up.

Again you misunderstand what I was saying.

Read Closely.

LN/SA/LSF are a military organisation in Liberty.
Military has a chain of command.
If you want to fit into that chain, and be ordered around by other people, within Roleplay, join one of these Liberty factions.

If you Don't want to be told what to do, join the Junkers, or go Privateer or Freelancer.

It's that simple.

So much for freelancer.

Edit: Oh, and btw. You told the CSW not to join the Junkers, and they didn't want to be told what to do. So I think you should scratch that out of your post.

But the Indies wont follow that order.

That was wrong. Just wrong. You are purposefully trying to provoke an argument from faction leaders regarding "abuse" of independents, and that is a direct provocation. If you can't say anything in the good will for discussion, then just don't say anything.

And, yes, in RP, the faction leaders have more of a say than the recruits, but if enough recruits disagree with them then they can mutiny, can't they? It's a difficult balancing act, and if you can't balance it you're sunk.

Well it's not like it's an unreasonable order is it?

ARGH!

The "faction" existed before the LSF or SA. They aren't "the" faction--even if they rp as if they are. If they wanted to rp that as a permanent thing, it should have been submitted to be formalized as a server rule.

The point isn't, "Doesn't it make more sense that someone would run the military?", it's "Who decided they could run it?" They did.

All you are saying is, "Well I like the LSf and their structure so why don't you shove off and do something else if you can't agree with me?"

THAT is the problem.

You aren't just telling them, "Maybe you will like something else better" you are telling them "You are not allowed to play this then because you don't agree with my group".

That is the issue.

I agree with this by the way, and thought it was well said.

Our characters WOULD be confused by a ragtag official military or government with no structure but they ALSO would be horrified and furious at a group that "declared" themselves the military or government by force of arms and they WOULD speak out.

I am actually trying to talk as my character would:

"Where is the election and authority for this government of our system?"

(from the indy perspective) Yes it is unreasonable, because he told me what to do and I dont want to do it.

If there are any inconsistencies of fact I apologise. Please notify me of them by PM.

This is the response I was looking for.
