Reaver Mercenary Co. - BaconSoda - 07-10-2011 I don't think John "Pumpernickel" Mackinac looks like a suicide or a girl. Reaver Mercenary Co. - Silver - 07-10-2011 I don't know about Cobalt... He's pretty suicidal in my point of view.
All he needs is a skirt and piercings, it seems. Not sure it's going to increase subscriptions to suicide girls though. Reaver Mercenary Co. - cobalt.reaver - 07-10-2011 ' Wrote: ![]() Hey, I resent that. I haven't blown up my ship in at least three days. ![]() Reaver Mercenary Co. - Silver - 07-10-2011 But you do look good in a skirt. <3 Reaver Mercenary Co. - Diomedes - 07-15-2011 I've seen a lot of Reavers in the last little bit from a number of angles. I've seen you guys as QCP and during short stints as a hunter and as a Corsair. I figure it's time to add my reflections and hopefully you can take something good from it. First of all, you guys are way too good at your jobs. I'm no pvp ace, probably on the order of average. Which basically means if I log in and there's anymore than one of you within two systems of my QCP I don't even bother to undock. That's meant as a complement to your skills. I have almost always seen Reavers on lately, and somehow all of my characters seems to be hostile to you. Congratulations on breaking canon through overwhelming presence, I've fought Reavers more than the KNF, RM and Mollys combined. Mostly that's a good job to you guys. 7 Reavers splashing anything undocking from Crete was a bit much when it started with two corsair fighters (two battleships did pass through mostly trying to either dock or leave). Okay, constructive points. You have a colourful organization (apologies for the pun, way too easy), but I don't feel your players are taking full advantage. I can't tell one Reaver apart from the other; the dialogue follows the same tones and word choices. There are some lines and "hons" dropped all over, seemingly regardless of which colour is talking. The Reavers have an opportunity (unlike a military) to be really diverse and have differing personalities, even in the short notices given to hostiles. 12 Jaynes may sum up the Reavers attitude, but 1 Jayne, 1 Samuel L Jackson, and 1 Liam Neeson would be way more interesting. I also tried tossing something different to the Reavers with my Hunter, who is not exactly what you would call reliable or dedicated. Yes, it was an attempt to pay them off to leave me alone. The Reavers played along long enough so they could use the delay as an excuse to blow away my shields while I was typing and then never responded to the final offer. Not a big issue here, but I would suggest that variety should always be looked for. The offer could be turned down or even used as a ploy as in what happened in this case. I would just urge your members to at least sometimes listen to such offers as a way of changing the normal way of things. And of course, this all depends on each character's personality too: are they out for blood first or coin first? I guess that's the biggest gist here. The Reavers stand out for being a bit unique and colourful. Don't let that slip away into routine as encounters become more common and begin to consist of the same line then shootout. Real characters and people aren't generally flat or 1-dimensional, try to fill out the Reavers too. No one is saying they have to (or should) react the same way to every encounter. One final comment, and it's about technology. You've made some killer tech deals that have put you in a good position. Seeing culverins floating around the Omegas was a bit of a surprise, I was unaware Gallic tech could be taken past the Taus at this point. Overall with the technology, my best suggestion would be this: if someone made a hypothetical "Can I do this with my freelancer if I get the permissions" thread on the forums and the general community veteran response would be "uh no, despite it being legal by the rules" I'd like to see the Reavers shy away from it as well. The disadvantage here is that you would lose a bit of the freedom on some tech combinations. The advantage is likely better held perceptions of the Reavers, with less feelings of cliquishness or double-standards. Not a huge deal in the end, just seems to be the community standard for everyone else. Apologies for the wall of text. Hopefully you can take something positive out of it. Reaver Mercenary Co. - BaconSoda - 07-15-2011 We can always take good from feedback.:) There's a thing about the Reavers that in reality, half of us are really good, and the other half are pretty mediocre. As to tonight in Crete, we were chasing the CNS-Evolution with pretty much our B-Team and it turns out he logged off. With the amazing amount of NPCs in Gamma and all the shooting going on, it might have seemed like we were all trying to shoot those two fighters, but the majority of us were really trying to shoot the NPCs. And yes, 7 Reavers were on tonight. It was a hallmark moment and we took pictures accordingly in both Gamma and Bretonia (picture coming soon). Now I guess people can really say they saw 1 Sabre, 1 Mamoru, 1 Falcatta, and 4 Taiidans (or something), all from the Reavers. It's agreed that 1 Jayne, 1 Samuel L. Jackson, and 1 Liam Neeson would be much better than 12 Jaynes. Unfortunately, Silver is the most immediately vocal of us, and a lot of the RP coming from groups branches off of the Jayne around. In the future, hopefully we can see more RP branching from other Reavers. I'd personally like some Morgan Freeman with Liam Neeson, but that's just me. We'll try not to slip into that trap.:) As to Culiverns? Well, as the Reaver who stalked Gallia literally night and day to get those guns, I have to say that it's a matter of really earning those things. The difference really between the circumstance you described and what the Reavers have done is that a permissions thread like that on the forum from an unknown person is coming with the tech in mind first, while the Reavers first came looking for work and then thought "Hey, this tech would be pretty cool." And that's really the problem with most of those hypothetical permissions is that it has the permission in its head before the work. The Reavers don't quite do that. We've been working with Kusari for a long time but we have never used Disenfectors or Sunfrenzies and I doubt we will in the future. We're there for the work first and the equipment second. We've earned that trust before even considering getting technology. I suppose what I'm trying to say about technology is that I think we're doing it the right way. I really would never consider punishing someone for doing something right. The fact that other people are being punished by not getting the guns for considering the tech first before the work really seems to reinforce that idea. We're not above any standard anyone else is; we've just learned how to do things the right way and we're rewarded for that. I don't think what we do is anymore out of reach for other players; I think other players just don't really know how to reach for it as well as we do. Reaver Mercenary Co. - SnakThree - 07-15-2011 Isn't Mercenary ID with Gallic lawful tech bound to same ZoI as that faction? It isn't right or wrong. It's just written rule. And rules > roleplay. All the time. If you're doing what you think is right but against the rules, it just shows your disrespect towards rules. And this isn't what is expected from faction. Any faction. Reaver Mercenary Co. - BaconSoda - 07-15-2011 If it is against the rules to use Gallic tech where we're using it, we'll stop immediately. The rules around Gallic tech have always been somewhat strange and have changed twice since we earned the privilege of using Gallic guns. I'll look into it immediately. Thanks for raising that point in a completely neutral and objective manner. EDIT: According to the Tech Chart, there is no stipulation regarding Gallic technology and any ZoI. However, this notice says otherwise. I'll talk to Zelot about it when he's around, but in the meantime I'll talk to the folks above me in the Reavers about it. All the time.I think Grand Culverins are GRN tech, which is a simple white cell to Merc ID, with no further limitations. I'm not sure though, since I'm not an expert in Gallic tech. |
