Corsair - Zoner - DAnvilFan - 02-08-2012 I'll take that bet and raise you a "Zoners have a planet???" logic. But now we just got really, really, really off-topic. Only works for Admin fakshuns:sleep: On a more sirius note, the unity of zoners would be a bit like trying to unify all African countries into one massive country, with one fiscal policy/diplomatic relations/currency etc. A bit silly and not going to work. Ultimately they are all too different. Freeport 2 could ban all Outcasts. Freeport 10 would be brutally fornicated if it attempted such a thing. That's a pretty obvious issue. Why not just be content being independent, free and weak? If you don't fancy the weak part, give up some freedom to gain some security. EDIT: ' Wrote:What wonderful logic - irradiate a paradise that you could've used to end your hunger problem. Yes the whole paradise thing is a bit of a problem. Why the hell has no one invaded it already?! Their stations have the same name, work under the same structure and are chronologically labeled. The Africa comparison doesn't even make sense here, not to mention the fact that you don't need one country to be unified in the world of sci-fi Space Shooters. Zoner Alliance was about as perfect to a solution regarding Zoner RP as I've ever seen on the server. And I said before, it didn't fall apart because it wasn't fitting Roleplay terms. It fell apart because players got upset with each other. The Africa comparison doesn't even make sense here, not to mention the fact that you don't have to have one country to be unified in the world of sci-fi Space Shooters. African countries are African. They often share beliefs systems and code and would call one another brethren. You can say the same for many countries even. If you have independent diplomacy, can you really be united with another freeport that has differing diplomacy? If the ships from this united government decide to pew nasties that one freeport doesn't like..does that not mean the nasties will simply be hostile to the united government and all freeports within it, regardless of which one they are? The Freeports can all have their own diplomacy but the enemy will only have one diplomacy and it'll be against that united government. Corsair - Zoner - DAnvilFan - 02-08-2012 ' Wrote:African countries are African. Holy moly, are you kidding me? All of the murder going on in there is due to cultural differences and descrimination. They are calling each other anything but brethren. ' Wrote:The Freeports can all have their own diplomacy but the enemy will only have one diplomacy and it'll be against that united government. YES. I know. It's totaly RP appropriate. Corsair - Zoner - MÃmir - 02-08-2012 I think this idea of total zoner autonomy is nice and all, but it makes it very difficult for non-zoners to navigate - what are the rules of this particular freeport? Who is this particular faction alligned to? What to think of this indie? And so on and so forth. Some level of unity has to be in place, otherwise it makes it all but impossible for anyone else to properly interact with Zoners, I think that is important to remember. Also the shared ID and IFF/reputation calls for some form of unity, otherwise it will just turn into a "fluff faction" where people can do more or less what they want and then hide under the generic neutral ID and IFF. EDIT: @Bluespawn: Well a lot of the differing cultural norms in Africa were installed by colonial masters with different views. Like the whole Hutu / tutsi divide, which was installed by Belgian Christian Missionaries of the belief that the Tutsi were the lost 13th tribe from the bible, and the Hutu as not having a soul at all. So in a "primordial view", Africa might not be so full of conflict and contradictions. Political? Naaaah. That's kind of how it happened actually, but on a much smaller scale, of course. Different ethnic groups being thrusted into countries with artificial borders, left over from previous colonist regimes. Of course the said colonists didn't care all that much which ethnic groups they had under one roof before colonialism collapsed. After the said collapse though, the artificial borders stayed and the centralisition as well. The result? War. Civil war. Call it what you like. Several groups fighting amongst each other for one centralised seat of power. |
