Well, blast! What a sad day.
You were always an awesome faction. Ever since I joined Discovery I always enjoyed playing with you guys. There was lots of stuff we did together... countless raids, all those defenses of Gamma, plenty of awesome RP encounters, we even did some fun anticap misions and of course, we all feared Captain Armin's missiles!!!. xD
Thank you for everything you did for Corsairs and Disco. I am happy to hear that you will still be around. Other than that...see you in space soon.

It's a sad day.... Are you sure of this decision? Now with 30 hours activity requirement removed you could still stay as official faction, developing official Corsair lore...Muh...
With Black Sails and Benitez being unofficial, do I understand TBH is the last official Sair faction? Who's the TBH leader, btw?

Yes, TBH is the last corsair official faction. The council of elders is dead also, we're trying to find a solution to the situation but for now - the Corsair NPC faction is dead \ on life support. This way we can end up w\o any official faction very soon, however, as was mentioned already - what it even necessary for? FR5 is a joke, "having a say in development" is a joke too since I heard many just get a middle finger from devs, etc. This only leaves unnecessary responsibilities, disappointment and other examples of bad experience.
Devs and admins were forcing us, who used to try to play the same game now as we did 4 years ago, to drop all that and adapt to what they are developing. Okay, I personally, said one day "fuck it" and now I'm breaking bad into any shit w\o blinking an eye and I don't see why I need official faction or to be a member of one if this just ruins my fun or forces me to do the things I don't feel like doing.
So to sum up - gg, mission accomplished by devs and admins in the fight for destroying official factions.

We could stay official but to what end?
As was stated in the original post the game has changed from when the majority of Benitez first started to play. It has a more PvP bias and that has been enough to put some Benitez players off from playing Disco all together - not just as Benitez.
The PvP bias is not a "bad" thing, but neither is it the environment into which Benitez was born.
We felt it was better to step down and to allow some other group to perhaps take over and to play in an environment that they enjoy and to develop the Corsairs in such a way that it was more suited to the current enviroment. Holding on to our Official status for the sake of it is not fair on the Community, or the Benitez members who would be expected to put in the work to maintain it.
I don't believe that as a group we have any particular issues about the way the mod has developed although as individuals there is a wide range of opinions.
We also have other gaming interests (as well as FL), and truthfully we are currently putting more effort into those other games/interests.
With regard to the Corsair Council I believe that it does still technically exist, and that technically Benitez still hold seats on it. At some point we will need to have a chat with the TBH and the Benitez members to determine whether in the first instance the TBH would like us to retain a seat(s?) on the Council, and secondly to determine who within Benitez actually might want the job.
Historically, the Corsair Council has not been made up of just members of Official factions, and has included a number of Indies sitting alongside the Officials - I have no idea if that made the Corsairs unique but it made sense that the Indies had a say and an opportunity to put the Indie point of view.
