RE: A Meeting A Foster Base (//Doc and PLR ONLY) - Doc Holliday - 06-18-2014 "Fair enough," Doc agreed, "let my team handle the mechanicals and I'll leave the designing stuff to you. Once Rogue engineers get here, they can co-ordinate with Mr. Sloan." Doc squinted a bit in curiosity, "nasty looking scar. I can clean that up a bit if you wish or rid you of it entirely in the future. Mind me asking what happened?" RE: A Meeting A Foster Base (//Doc and PLR ONLY) - Widow - 06-18-2014 "I'll apologize in advance for the Rogue engineers.... They can be a bit crude at times." She smiled a bit "I'll be sure to send in some of the more, uh, well behaved ones." As he asked about the scar, she raised an eyebrow before sighing with a slight nod. She use to be self conscious about it, but had since learnt to ignore it. "Long story short, one of the top Rogues decided I wasn't needed anymore." Thing paused a moment to take a sip of her drink "Her intention was to let me bleed out. But she didn't do a very good job of it." She shook her head, the thought that it would have been a good thing for everyone if she had succeeded still haunted her. RE: A Meeting A Foster Base (//Doc and PLR ONLY) - Doc Holliday - 06-21-2014 He looked at her with a mix of disgust and surprise, freezing for a moment upon hearing what she said, "Just let you bleed out? Because you weren't needed anymore? My God what has mankind turned into?" Doc caressed his glass as he thought aloud, "Mankind leaves Sol to escape violence and war. They find Sirius, a peaceful place and here is mankind fighting again." He just shook his head and took a drink. "I am disturbed that you would think that it was just as well that this Rogue succeeded," he stated, "I mean, people aren't just something you use and throw away. Granted there are many who think it and I've dealt with many of them but to just let someone bleed out is just cruel." His glass empty, he re-filled out, offering to re-fill hers as well, "No offense to your leadership but you deserve to be treated better than that. I would personally shoot the person who tried such a thing to you." RE: A Meeting A Foster Base (//Doc and PLR ONLY) - Widow - 06-21-2014 Thing kept a straight face at his reaction to what she had said, "In this world, violence and war is what makes people thrive. I don't understand it, but most of the Rogues don't know any other way. I was lucky in the sense I had a family when I was child. I was cared for and looked after." She shrugs sadly and finished her drink, nodding a 'please' when he offered to refill her glass. After being quiet for a few moments, she eventually spoke again. "If she succeeded, I wouldn't have to keep living this life. I don't know what happens after death... But the Rogues would be rid of me, and I.... I would have, I just want..." She didn't want to finish her sentence, she didn't want him to think badly of her. When she spoke again, her voice was shaky, she was struggling to keep her emotions in check but she kept her voice low and spoke slowly to relay a sense of steadiness."As it is, my life is theirs. I play out how they want it to be done... Even this..." She raised her glass slightly "This drink, and the fact I've said far too much, has the potential to get me killed..... It was meant to be strictly business." She shook her head and fell silent, seeming to be lost in thought. RE: A Meeting A Foster Base (//Doc and PLR ONLY) - Doc Holliday - 06-23-2014 He re-filled her glass, leaning forward a bit as he put down the bottle with a straight face, "I'll tell you what happens after death having been there once myself, he's not all that bad." He sat back. "I know the Rogue life is a harsh one. You live day to day with nothing to lose. It makes you deadly, it makes you sharp." He nodded, "I wasn't so unlike that in a past life, doing whatever I had to for survival and if I lost a fight well, the suffering just comes to an end. I think you and I understand each other more than we realize." He took a sip of his drink, "That is why I thought of so much for this base. Refurbishing and a biodome. Think of it, independence and home grown food. I use the biodomes on Med.Force.One to grow medicines. I mean, wouldn't it be nice to be able to not have to rely on raiding, fighting and risk death to get essential needs?" He sighed, "I will miss my home for that reason. The gardens, livestock, all the things I raised for food and medicine." He just gently smiled at her. "Fear not. I think the business end of our meeting has gone rather well. I always found a little pleasure in a meeting lightens the mood a bit and lowers stress." RE: A Meeting A Foster Base (//Doc and PLR ONLY) - Widow - 06-24-2014 Thing smiled slightly after she had her emotions under control "I wouldn't be so sure about the deadly part. Some cases, sure. My problem is, apparently, I am far too nice to have this as a career path. Hence why I was no longer required." She paused a moment before shrugging "in saying that though, the Rogue life was not where I had intended to end up when I was a student." She shook her head slightly and sipped her drink, brushing the thought off. "You know, it takes a special type of person to escape this life. And you managed to do it. You got away from it rather then ending up like the rest of us are likely to. Just another number." Thing listened to him, the idea of what he wanted to turn the base into excited her, the idea that survival was possible without worrying about where the next shipment of essential supplies would come from was something she had missed. "What you are doing, you would save more lives then you realize... I can only imagine that you have done so already..... But if you will miss your home, why don't you just return there? I'm sure it cant be any worse then what you will have to deal with here." She lent back in her chair and bit her lip before looking across at him. "You've taken on a lot of peoples problems, From what I can tell, you've helped a lot of people.... But are you happy?" She took another sip of her drink and seemed to relax more then she had been the entire time on the base after he mentioned the business end had gone well. Curling her legs up under her, she brushed her hair out of her eyes as she made herself comfortable, the temperature wasn't bothering her as much anymore. The cool room was a nice change to the stuffy heat of Padua. RE: A Meeting A Foster Base (//Doc and PLR ONLY) - Doc Holliday - 06-28-2014 Doc continued with the business angle of their meeting. "Bio domes may indeed save lives but they also deliver independence. You can raise most of what you need for food and some medicines. They can be time consuming to build but the end results are worth the wait." Doc took a sip of his drink as he watched Thing get comfortable. He didn't know if it was the liquor or just her natural attractiveness as she brushed her hair aside but for now, he continued, "Think of it. If we get one built here for Foster, imagine getting one built for say, Alcatraz or any other Rogue base. It could be more independence for all Rogues everywhere but yes, one base at time I know." He smirked a little, "Yes, I know where most of them are, have traded on them and played a few hands of cards on them but what I don't do is publicize my trips to them AND I ensure that I don't attract unwanted attention going to them." He didn't make it obvious that he was taking an interest in her. Rather, he commented on her. "Escaping my past was never easy," he explained, "When one has nothing to lose, they are the most dangerous. There was a time where I was already a dying man but I saw the value of saving a friend or just someone who had more potential than they realized. I still have a fast draw, I have killed men, even not so long ago, for reasons less than honorable. I may save a lot of lives but with the constant fighting and warring, I'm labeled an enemy by many since I'll patch up someone so that they can go out and either kill or be shot up again." He took another sip, "If I had a credit for every time someone said to me that I was siding with their enemy, I could by ten dreadnoughts modified for medical use and have money left over." He then sighed, "Now, when I need a place and time to think, I retreat to my cabin on planet Erie. It's on a small lake away from most people and few know of it." He looked at Thing, "If for any reason you wish to just get away for awhile, go there. Take my ship or get a ride on my transport and no one will know of your presence and just take time to yourself. I think you will find the peace, serenity and solitude will be rewarding." RE: A Meeting A Foster Base (//Doc and PLR ONLY) - Widow - 06-28-2014 She shook her head and smiled, looking slightly confused "And yet you let us find you in Cassini?" She shrugged slightly realizing it wasn't as silly of an idea as she initially thought "Well, I guess it was far more effective then trying to get some of the Rogues to pass on a message for you." After taking another sip of her drink, she thought about what he had said about building more then one biodome "It would certainly change the way things are done, give people something to work for rather then, well, surviving." Thing knew he was right, she had nothing to loose and her actions often showed this. She gave a sympathetic smile "I am sure you have your reasons, honorable or not... And for what you do, it seems illogical to class you as an enemy. You'll always find a friend here with us. Even if by doing so you could double that Dreadnought count" She poked her tongue out at him playfully. She looked down at her glass, thinking for a moment "Taking time away... I wouldn't know what to do with myself." She paused for a moment. "I keep myself busy so I don't have time to think." She wanted to take him up on the offer, but was afraid of how she would cope with the quiet. RE: A Meeting A Foster Base (//Doc and PLR ONLY) - Doc Holliday - 06-28-2014 Yet the question she asked earlier of his happiness went unanswered and somewhat forgotten amidst their chat. It ate at Doc a bit as it surfaced. He sighed deeply at its thought and gave a very random, "Not really. I haven't been for awhile." He then realized the delay and didn't want to leave her in limbo, "I may still have Med Force Enterprises but I've all but lost my home, my kids, my wife and the people I once led have been fairly quiet. I find myself trying to find new purpose for myself. I am quite lost for the time and for the most part alone so no, I'm not happy if you will." He then snickered at her playful tongue stick. "Trying to cheer me up I see. Well, we'll see in time about the dreadnought thing." RE: A Meeting A Foster Base (//Doc and PLR ONLY) - Widow - 06-28-2014 His answer confused her momentarily until he began explaining what he meant. "I..." she hesitated for a moment, not sure what to say. "You're taking on a lot for one person.... More then what one person should." She looked up at him and when she spoke she sounded concerned "You deserve to be happy, and I don't exactly like the fact that you are not." She thought for a moment, taking a sip of her drink while she did so, She found she was quite enjoying the taste of it. She wasn't normally a drinker, but compared to the normal selection they had available on Padua, it was a nice change. She was also enjoying the tipsy feeling it was giving her, for the first time in a while she felt completely at easy. "What is it that you enjoy doing... When you aren't working on projects such as this?" She grinned at his comment about the dreadnought, "As long as you know that while you are here, you're safe then it'll be ok. You have my word on that too, regardless of what ends up happening." |
