OORP attacks have nothing to do with this. Registering your ship with a faction doesnt make OORP attacks "ok", you'll still get sanctioned like anyone else.

Why not? How is it RP to say to a character who is being played perfectly and within the rules "I am a faction leader so I can dictate your RP and say you are a spy traitor! Now I can bomber whore you!"
And what kind of admin looks at that, nods sagely and says "that's good RP!"

My only comment on the topic will be that I think there has been an excessive zeal behind enforcing these registrations and that in some cases they've entirely missed the point.

Technically if the capship player in question does not do anything with his ship that would put it's resources in danger, then the faction cant do anything about it unless that ship enters a faction-owned guard system.
It's kinda like the deal with the rheinland military. If you decide to play an indy RM character in a gunboat/cruiser/whatever, as long as you do not set foot in braunschweigh and as long as you do not do anything OORP which would give an [RM] player reason to attack you, they cant do anything about it.
However, if the gunboat/cruiser/whatever decides to start firing at people without reason, he can be 'classified' as either psycho, rogue, or nomad-infested and destroyed on sight.

Well, they are. They couldn't care less about RP.
I've been given -20 hours to register my capital ship, which I was roleplaying before the capital ship registration as an automated ship.

Yes, i am well known for PVP whoring everyone and anyone for no reason at all.
Now, since this server is so PVP whorish oriented, admins are biased, they are lying and out to get you, faction leaders have ultimate power and use it to whore anyone, and in fact rule the server, factions can not be sanctioned what ever they do and they are killing RP of every indie on the server, and so on... Why do you still play here?

The server isn't bad when the factions aren't around, that's what keeps me playing.
