Fairplay vs Roleplay - BaconSoda - 09-23-2008 I said fairplay, but we roleplay for the sake of fairplay, anyway. What do I mean? Well, we are here to see both fairplay, to have fun, and roleplay, because we enjoy it more than simple PvP. So...Why not roleplay for the sake of fairplay? Fairplay vs Roleplay - jimmy Patterson - 09-23-2008 nine outta ten times and the LN can vouch for this but yes i would send my battlecruiser ion or my gunboat not nessarrly to kil lbut to act as a hub for them to coordnate with or pilot resscye sure id fire but sporadicly 2 mabye 3 shots just into the genenral area essentally saying"warning attacking this vessel will get you A destroyed by her guns B destroyed by her allied fighters or C badly damaged and or destroyed sure if the lsf were getting saluthetered then yeah id light em up but for the most part i held a standoff location say 2.5 k or something im not voteing because i see it as we have to balance it out also the indie problemis one of the reasons me and xing moved the 106th to another house anyone who knows the 106th battlegroup you know we roleplay quite heavly yet even the pvpwhore indies(not saying you all do) drove us away liberty needs to get its act togeather ive tried but i dont plan onjoining a faction however if the LN needs one of my caps before i selel them il lrename then with an [LN] tag if needed Fairplay vs Roleplay - Orin - 09-23-2008 Can't blame you, Jimmy. My LPI defected for the same reason. <pokes sig in another shameless advert attempt> Fairplay vs Roleplay - jpo - 09-23-2008 You cant have fair roleplay without a DM (GM) for every 4-8 players, period. Thats just how it is. Fairplay vs Roleplay - n00bl3t - 09-23-2008 Fairplay. (It's a Role-play server for people to have fun on.) Fairplay vs Roleplay - Baltar - 09-23-2008 ' Wrote:You cant have fair roleplay without a DM (GM) for every 4-8 players, period. Thats just how it is. Ah ... the words of an optimist. I can see that my encounters with you will be most unpleasant. If I know who you are ... I'll avoid you. Fairplay vs Roleplay - Cannon - 09-23-2008 Fairplay then roleplay. This is meant to be fun. Fairplay vs Roleplay - chopper - 09-23-2008 Well I'd also say a mixture of both. For example, I can't simply sit still while 3 Corsair Lunchboxes are dueling 3 BH Gunships in front of Crete while I'm in a Praetorian. From an RP perspective, they are a danger to Crete, and since they are so close, I don't care if they want a 'fair fight' or not, I will attack with my bomber. If they want to do such things they can get lost and do them on another place. Especially when Gamma is attacked 5 times a day by that same blokes. Same thing goes for pirates in front of capital planets. You can't come in a Sabre to Manhattan and expect capital ships to leave you alone because it's 'unfair'. On the other hand, Cruisers and BS's chasing lone fighters is a bit silly, there I agree. I mean, it is unfair because a Cruiser/BS simply can't loose (from one VHF/bomber), and that fight is pretty boring if it's one sided. Also, I find your example more silly then fair. "Duel me" while there are 20 of your friends around. Sure, I can see that happening, to some proud fighter, like Outcast, Corsair, or Dragon. But LN? LPI? BAF? No, I don't think they'd risk 'dueling' for the sake of 'fairness', simply because they are OORP if they duel you. So while I agree that fairness is very important for keeping this game fun, I sometimes find unfairness to be an extremely well RP. And if fairness is to always fight 1vs1 or 2vs2, then I don't like it. All in all, I always try to keep out of the fights that seem fair to me. Don't want to make it unfair. Like for example when I left you and that Phantom fighting alone in Colorado. I didn't engage because you worked hard to bring him down to 20 bots, and I had no interest in killing him (merc ID). All in all, capital ships are mostly the reasons for people feeling the unfairness. If I ever decide to fly a capital ship, I'll never engage a lone VHF and chase him across the universe, because there's no fun in that. I'll just RP that he's too fast for my turrets and go on with my way. Fairplay vs Roleplay - Saigo.Watanabe - 09-23-2008 I vote for fair play because otherwise its not fun, but if you can keep it in rp then even better. Oh and the RoS Raid on Gamma it wasnt a loss, because we took out more ships then we had lost, and something like 5 Cruisers and 4 Gbs... Which is ofc to be expected since i would say defending your homeland with everything you have is fair enough and the attackers should expect to get heavy losses... In the end only 2 of the people who raided survived... Myself in a Falcata and Unholy in a Sabre... Not a loss but the objective was achieved... Fun and damaging the corsairs forces. Fairplay vs Roleplay - looqas - 09-23-2008 I went with fairplay. I've been jumped too many times while fighting against already a superior force. When you are a pirate and in fight 1 vs 3-4 suddenly even traders who are passing by start to chase you. I don't mind them shooting defensive fire while in docking procedure, but really going after me. It always amazes me how people really, really want to gank. While I don't mind that much being overwhelmed since it's usually in RP, what I want to see is to leave an opponent a chance to leave the battlefield. In those times that I know I'm gonna win this encounter I usually cease actively trying to shoot the guy down and write a line or two telling him/her to bug out while he/she can. And I'm not turning this into a faction indie thing, but those well rooted official faction players are usually those that give an opponent a chance to disengage. They don't pursue you from system to system or CD you just for the fun of getting to see the kill msg. So I see fairplay coming from faction a lot more often than from indies. Of course situations vary greatly. I try to extend the same courtesy to others also. If a trader has stopped and RPed and just says after a long conversation "Kill me then." I don't kill him. What's the point after all? But if I'm in a group then I tend deal with people more in RP way and shoot them out of the sky. |
