Oh noo, this is like soo bad an idea. Like it has been said there are already people metagaming and do it well , now you wanna encourage them even more and add others on top of that? Seriously no.
Think how easy it would be to avoid people. We should try bringing people together in this multiplayer game, not give them more options to avoid one another.
I disagree completely.

Another nail in the coffin if this goes ahead.

Knowing that someone is somewhere should be enough to promote interaction. Thrill is a good thing.

Definitely no.

It would take metagaming to a completely new level.

And it would screw over indies like hell.
The only advantage of indies (who often fly alone and are more or less defenseless) is that their names do not give away what ID they are.

It would be like throwing indies to the wolves, forcing them to counter-metagame and it would all just be a playerlist cat&mouse.

Also... imagine: Pirate ID.

Max.Smart - Kepler - Pirate

=> GG, taking Galileo, haha.

No. Bad idea.

I'd imagine it to show IFF, not ID.

Well Alley stated in this thread there's a pirate IFF coming soon, so the point stands.

Might if I add here that even if this goes into a trial run, the ones who would mostly be affected in a negative way are newbies and indies, generally people who do not actively participate in the forums and thus are not going to voice their problems with this change?

Just think:
What type on interaction will a pirate char get in - say - California:

Max.Clever - Liberty Rogue - California

Will he meet traders? No. They take the Ontario route.
Will he be logged for by lawfuls? Oh yeeeeah! Welcome 4 caps.

Compare to what interaction "Max.Clever" will get, when no one knows he is a Rogue.
Different, isn't it?

It's bad for lawfuls as well as unlawfuls.

The only ID that would prosper is the Freelancer iD.
And that's the only ID that adds hardly anything to Freelancer, and is mainly a tool for cheap hunting with little to no rp. They would even have it easier to locate indie targets, as they cannot even hide any more behind a neutral name.

Nope.
Nope.
Nope.

I can't believe that so many people actually voted "yes".
This is the single worst idea that I have heard in years.

I vote to get rid of the whole thing, maybe show players who are on and thats it. you all complain about metagaming yet we have this!

RE: Poll: Ingame list: show rank or faction affiliation? - Karst - 05-30-2015

I've heard some pretty bad ideas in my time, but this is quite possibly the worst.

I'll not go into detail why this is a bewilderingly stupid suggestion, because the fact that people are actually seriously considering this is making my head hurt. I'm sure the reasons have been stated often enough in these five pages.

It's interesting that this is possible, but no. Just no.
