Reminder to traders: plan for a new ID - Xoria - 10-26-2008 ' Wrote:Keep in mind that when they made the trade routes, they made them so all house courperation's have at least one rout they can do, and the routs will be mostly the same profit wise. No, they won't all be the same profit-wise. ' Wrote:To get an actual Freelancer tag requires doing massive numbers of BHG missions, along with some tweaking at the end to drop all your other maxed-rep factions. Took me about 6 hours doing easy BHG missions in an Eagle. Then you got a Freelancer Tag the hardest possible way. There is a much, much easier way that takes far less time, perhaps 2 or 3 hours. It's posted in a thread from a long time ago. If you search, you'll find it just like I did. ' Wrote:The problem though is that with all the traders being pushed into playing as house corps, the number of traders passing through border worlds like the Omegas is going to be drastically cut. There is no reason this should happen. House corporation ships will not be limited to House space in any way. If they go through the territory of an enemy House (like Gateway going through Kusari or Samura going through Bretonia) there might be roleplay consequences like the KNF or BAF blowing them up, but no server rule or ID rules will restrict what systems corporations can travel through. There are plenty of profitable routes that will go through the Omegas, Omicrons, Sigmas, and Taus. Reminder to traders: plan for a new ID - hack - 10-26-2008 ' Wrote:Presumably it's escaped your notice that diamond running funds most of the RP characters on this server? Where do you think the factions get their 20 million recruitment funding from? Carzor, I was referring to the traders who do nothing but power trade and never interact with anybody. These are the same people I see later with there uber cap ships tearing up the place. People have been warned over and over about it, but still ignore it. I have been in Sig 13 and seen it. A pirate will tell a certain transport to halt and they will do one of 2 things: 1: "Blow me up, I will just try again." 2: "Say nothing and run" By the way, when I saw this, I was trading (No, not in diamonds, I wanted to see what the fuss was all about. I also got pirated). I do not have a pirate character. Currently my trader character is the only one I have. All this behavior does is rile up the pirates and giving them the impression that ALL traders are power traders, there by hurting everyone. There are pirates now who will take down your shields and leave you 10% hull armor before making demands because they assume you aren't going to RP due to past experiences. Are all traders "Power Traders"? NO But the few who are cause problems for the rest of us. As for needing 20 million to join a faction, perhaps the factions may want to look at the trading situation after the new mod. They may have to lower their "Initiation" fees. Also, after the new mod and the trading situation is handled, perhaps pirates wont be so quick to kill. Fewer traders=less money. </Edit> : My opinion on having to join a shipping faction for any ship larger than 3600 units is : Fine and dandy. Something that large is going to cost a lot and most independent owner/operators won't be able to fund the purchase/maintenance of that big a ship. Independents that can afford a ship that large eventually form their own company. This means that my independent trader is going to have to change to a freelancer tag. Yea, it's inconvenient to have to go around a rep fix, but I should be able to get it accomplished and be back to plying the trade lanes. </Edit off> My 2 cents. I think you're forgetting that some of us here like to Roleplay.... ' Wrote:Presumably it's escaped your notice that diamond running funds most of the RP characters on this server? Where do you think the factions get their 20 million recruitment funding from? Like Xoria said, there is no rule prohibiting travel between houses. Gateway, BowEx, and Republican travel through the Omegas on a daily basis, and they used to go through the Taus as well, Republican, Kishiro, and Samura also travel through the Sigmas on a daily basis. Also, some of us here have never done the run you are saying and have gotten the money through Roleplaying a Factionized Trader (You can make money doing one of those? Crazy, I know), thank you, and we have more than enough money for our factions. You know, that might seem a little harsh the way I wrote it, but I really don't understand what the fuss is about... Reminder to traders: plan for a new ID - Xoria - 10-26-2008 And let me just add this : earning credits will not be more difficult in 4.85, it will just require more diverse trading than it does now. For instance, have you ever seen anyone carrying superalloys, or superconductors between the houses? Probably not, because the routes are much worse than the alternatives. That will change so that many more commodities will have good routes for them. But it will still be basically the same trips. There is no way to really change the route from Bretonia to Rheinland or from Liberty to Bretonia, after all, without massively changing the mod around. So traders will still be on basically the same routes, but won't all necessarily be carrying the same 4 or 5 commodities anymore. In 4.85 they'll have many more commodities to choose from to make their credits with. And actually, even more systems will receive trading, because the buy and sell locations have been set up to encourage or require trips to production bases like Bautzen, Solarius, and Graves (just to name 3). And don't worry, there are good trades to get you out there to those production stations, too. Well, yeah, but I was using a method which didn't require farming Guard NPCs. That's far from easy in anything short of a gunboat (and even then...). I'm not that great a pilot, my little Eagle would've been toast. Reminder to traders: plan for a new ID - MrCynical - 10-26-2008 ' Wrote:There is no reason this should happen. Ah, that simplifies things a lot. Since my faction experience is with combat groups, I've always worked on the basis of "go where your NPCs go, and nowhere else". If trade factions have a free reign over allied space then it becomes a lot simpler, now all we have to worry about is the profitability of the new routes, cheers for clearing that up Xoria :) ' Wrote:Also, some of us here have never done the run you are saying and have gotten the money through Roleplaying a Factionized Trader (You can make money doing one of those? Crazy, I know), thank you, and we have more than enough money for our factions. Yeah I know that corp traders can go to their house borderworlds and neighbouring systems. But for example if you're a Republican trader, then from my previous understanding you can't participate in trade routes between say Leeds and New York (let's ignore the Liberty-Rheinland trade thing and assume this is vanilla). However if as Xoria says corp traders can go pretty much anywhere so long as they can handle attacks by hostiles, then that problem goes away. EDIT: I don't diamond run myself. I just think that the assumption that money-making trading (as opposed to mining Water in Magellan which might be excellent RP but isn't going to get you anywhere fast) is something to be stopped ignores the reality that a lot of the wonderful RP we have here relies on the ability to spend an hour or two on a trader and raise the money to maintain your bomber/whatever. Reminder to traders: plan for a new ID - Agmen of Eladesor - 10-26-2008 Don't forget that you've also got the 'independant' shipping companies like AP Manufacturing where we've already got an RP basis for what we do. We'll just basically get a house ID instead of the trader ID, keep our IFF as it is, keep our names as they are, and keep on doing our job of supplying the Bounty Hunters Guild with the best ships possible. Reminder to traders: plan for a new ID - Nightmouse - 10-26-2008 Luckily for me, my trader has changed to a Universal ship a while ago Also, will mining actually be fixed in the next version? I've been doing that for a while now, but the low drops are a real bummer Reminder to traders: plan for a new ID - Xoria - 10-26-2008 Some very smart people are trying to fix it without compromising on the loot-cheat problem.
