But yeah, indeed.
A lot of people RP seriously. But i doubt you'll see a modern politician joking around a lot.
At least, that's my experience. Sure in space it could all be a little less uptight, i can agree.
But people RP the way they want to, and there isnt much you can change about that, i'm afraid

If people liked RP-ing like that, then they would like being serious, which means they would prefer RL over a game. Or I am missing the whole point of games.

PS: Also, glad you're alright. Have a speedy recovery.

Apparently you do. People here, and basically anywhere, usually roleplay different roles than what they have iRL. Preference of being serious in a serious role one has chosen to play means preference of authenticity and possibly also dedication, and is not related to one's preference of RL over games.

Well as soon as I can hop into a space bomber and pirate some ships on the trade lanes, I'll definitely prefer RL over Disco. However until then...

If people are dedicated to role-play, then why is it often so empty, sterile and pretty much the same as many other people's? I think that each pot of RP needs a few grams of spirit.

Perhaps because dedication does not equal to talent, nor do the two accompany eachother all the time.

RE: Sirius is too Serious - Sorrontis - 07-19-2016

I made a serious character. Didn't like it. Playing something light hearted is way more fun for me.

RE: Sirius is too Serious - Psyentific - 07-19-2016

It is much more fun to play an authentic weapons-peddling space-turkmen or a shouting space-meiji-era space-imperialist than it is to play another space-american or space-businessperson

good rp starts with a fun character concept followed up with a healthy dose of improv

I'm posting this for a friend of mine, who cannot create an account due to a known issue with the website timing out during account creation

Quote:So I was introduced to this wonderful game by a good friend of mine. He explains me the fun of roleplaying stuff in space and yknow, the server being a generally chill place.

So we decide to roleplay a pair of Legitimate Businessmen, aka very obvious smugglers - and not just any smugglers, but specializing in the most unethical and immoral goods. Figured we'd have some fun, get some starting money, and possibly also offer fun roleplaying moments for anyone crossing our way.

So on our run to Manhattan hold full of drugs, I run across a Liberty officer, who of course tells me to halt. That's fine, I was waiting for this! I naturally do not, offer a obviously flimsy excuse of "sorry, talk later, i have a really urgent business appointment", and beeline for my goal. My idea was to run to dock, sell my haul, then undock and roleplay out a fun conversation, expecting some interesting questions, maybe an "we don't have proof" kind of deal.

I note that at this point I had no actual reason to undock - I just wanted to see what the roleplaying here is like. I expected the navy guys to kinda appreciate that gesture. Sure, they did. By summarily blowing me up in orbit, after I voluntarily give them a chance for some interesting after-the-run RP. I'm not naming and shaming you guys, but really? Just blowing me up because you can? This does not exactly encourage me to engage in RP with members of the faction anymore, when all I can expect is to have any of my excuses, attempt at fun conversation and stuff being shot down, both figuratively and literally.

I mean really. i got my dirty drug money, I figured I'd "reward" you guys with an interesting/entertaining situation. And you decide HURRR VALID KILL is an appropriate answer. Way to welcome me to the server guys. I honestly expected better from you guys. I hope you are the exception, rather than the rule.

I'll be staying, though. You're not getting rid of me quite that easily <3
