I used to do it as a main route, I was a miner so I'd go from my home, Falkland base to the best place to sell, Dresden, sometimes if I was in a hurry for cash I'd do the New Tokyo > New Berlin one though...

In reality, there is nothing wrong with this route. The only reason why there's a stigma attached to it is due to the OORP nature of most of the traders on the route and their ultimate goals.
This trade route is also home to many of the best RPed pirates, too.

eh, I do it when I feel like it as I come through Kusari or Rheinland. Just a matter of mood tho i never use the chugoku shortcut to kyushu and only rarely use the JH into Sig-13

I did it only a few times when everyone was whoring the Macduff - Harris route in 4.83. But I never complain about the NORMAL diamond runners. Its the people who go through Chugoku/Hokkaido that I can't stand. If they go through Honshu and New Tokyo, its fine and an RP-ish route. But going through the BD's home system and then within 10km of the GC's base is about as OORP as you can get.

Ok..personally I have done the route 3 ways for a total of 3 times.
1.The way the powertraders go....way too stressful.
2.The "Tradelanes only" route....safer,but also a tad stressful.
3.The "maximize the profits,the heck with how long it takes" route.....more enjoyable and more RP opportunities..start at Rostock with diamonds....go to Kyushu and sell,buy h-fuel and take to Java base,sell it and pick up Niobium,run it all the way to Leipzig base and sell it,pick up ( I forget cause its been so long), and take it to Rostock and start run all over again.
I like #3..lots more chances for RP...and its a nice scenic route.Look at the sights and enjoy the long trip...very relaxing.

Grab cardamine at Malta, head to Beta -> Sigma..17? -> Sigma 13 -> Frankfurt (yes, Frankfurt :O ) -> Hamburg -> Bering? -> Texas, drop off at Houston, pick up slaves, return.
This has more profit than Diamond-Niobium since nobody pirates along that route. Plus you don't break RP for running past lawfuls onto their bases, since there ARE no lawfuls to catch you!
DOOOO EEEEET.
Also, I've never done diamond/niobium via jumpholes. My lawful traders either do a run involving Munich, Omi Theta and Bretonia, or simply prisoners -> NB, engine components -> Cambridge. I've been pirated all of three times.
