There is a difference between Freeports that are just stations and a damn colony - especially for the human mentality. Capturing bases is one thing. But invading the planet would paint a very negative opinion on Bretonia, what would be totally used by Gallic, Gaian, Molly and Corsair propaganda.

After all, Zoner presence at least meant chunk of safe haven for unlawfuls cause it is better than fighting over and over again for the system. Now if Bretonia wanted to take that away, I'd see all the unlawfuls in Omega-49 to form an unlikely alliance and scream "freedom for Zoners", even if they don't give a damn about Zoners - just their own business and connections in Omega-49.

Pretty much unlawfuls in that system prefer Zoner presence over Bretonian one.

But seriously, this idea makes no sense. Not to mention that Liberty would not get anything really valuable. And if you worry about PR when it comes to Bretonia annexing Omega-49 (despite -no- house at all cares about zoners so no one important will care - after all Bretonians are not the first one to do this, look at Pennsylvania), trying to justify that you annexed territory of your ally which you were supposed to help survive is entirely different level of "bad PR".

Yes, losing of capital means something only if you not made way to retreat and didnt evacuated most of thing somewhere. In WW2 russians had plan if all going very bad, blow up Moscow and hold on Volga with Samara as new capital.

There btw another important thing, for all historical examples exist very strong motivation - was well know that invaders will remove kebabs civillian population, so there was choose between removing and being a thing. Imperial ambitions worked rarely and for short conflicts.

What motivation from Gallic and Bretonia side? I guess that moment mostly screwed, disco haven't enough propaganda, goals of population, which bread they eat every day and etc.

P.S And yes, zoners have population of small city on Gran Canaria, nobody cared much, all interested parties already in that conflict, so i dont see what should change. Also there is bad dark cyberpunk distopia, and also. Bretonia. Queen. IMPERIA. Conquest and annex something when you have imperial/monarchy mental peoples always good for ratings.

There is one difference between Bretonia and USSR during WW2. The USSR moved all their industry into Siberia. Bretonia lost backbone of their industry along with loss of Leeds. Newcastle could work as long as Southampton was still in one piece. Now with Southampton gone, Bretonian economy heavy industry is just non-existant at that stage.

For brets, they had RP about evacuation of important things in cambridge, and if their industry will be screwed finally this is not end, they need just keep Poole corridor to get industrial support from liberty.

Anyway i just want point out, this all mostly depend from civillians motivation and goverment balls, and this moments rarely lighted in story on my look.

Not Cambridge, Cambridge has a law against any heavy industry development that was brought about thanks to the Green Party (Gaian politicians). It's been relocated to New London and Sprague. Has anyone docked with Sprague yet? The launchpad has been upgraded. Looks exactly like Leeds, though the background is still green.
