It was supposed to be just another day at the job for Mecklenburg administration. There was a routine prisoner transfer to take care of from the police frigate, but after that everyone pretty much expected another long, boring shift. With the military and their spook friends conducting yet more exercises in the system, no one would be foolish enough to spoil for a fight. Not after the last time. When the station-wide alert sounded withe the police minutes away, half of the security forces assumed it was another drill. That is, until they noticed an unscheduled launch from the surface, followed by others...

The Alster vacationers did not waste time with fancy maneuvering. Trusting that the automated defenses wouldn't simply shoot down friendly vessels, they simply rushed for the nearest mooring points, and activated automated docking procedures. One of the ships still had a living pilot on board, who decided to save his own skin and activated the emergency codes. The others had experience with transport vessels and followed existing docking protocol, which was thankfully standardized across Rheinland. The later transports weren't as lucky... After the shock and some heated arguments, station security finally overrode the iff system, which promptly blasted six shuttles in a single salvo. With little time to secure vac suits, most hits resulted in almost complete loss of life, as later investigations would reveal.

With the guard response focused on the docks however, the rest of the Mecklenburg erupted into chaos. Instead of facing an organized guard force, the vacationers found a loose collection of defenders, who were more interested at holding position than preventing landings. With their part of the mission accomplished, all they now had to do was wait for the frigates. After a tense twenty minutes, only one showed up. Without much resistance, the vacationers were able to board in good order along with the few other surviving groups, with many spirits already held high. However, this optimism was immediately dispelled by the crew of the Loy. After quickly donning their prepared vacsuits, the vacationers and their new comrades sat down where they could to await their fate.

The corsair blocking force have done their job well, but vessels still slipped through the cracks. The Loy already had interceptors tailing after pulling away from the station. Curiously, the crew spotted another frigate without markings attached to the station after undocking, but did not think further of it due to the present situation commanding their full attention. The Loy made a wide exit away from the obvious avenue of escape, and even manage to shake off its immediate pursuers with the help of a blocking cruiser. But its thrusters could only take it so far away from the battle zone. With careful long range sniping, a single MND bomber still managed to keep the Loy from engaging its cruise engines, buying the critical minutes necessary for the military response to close the gap.

With the blocking force already engaged, only a single cruiser could be spared to defend the frigate as it shuffled away from the prison station. With an enemy cruiser, a gunship, and two bombers on its tail, the outcome was just a matter of time. The newly freed prisoners knew that it was all over when they heard the abandon ship alert. With only a third of the complement able to fit in the lifeboats, the rest grimly held on to whatever they could find as the frigate fell apart around them. With the rest of the corsair force sustaining critical damage, there would be little chance of a friendly rescue. With the arrival of the battleship commanding the exercise force on the scene, the corsair commander ordered all vessels to inflict as much damage as possible before retreating, with only a few vessels even being capable of that much.

Days later, only a few dozen escape pods made it out to Petra base. The rest have been assumed to be lost in space or back in the hands of the Rheinlanders. The Alster vacationers, for all intents and purposes, have ceased to exist as a group.
