Sexy pictures, violent avatars and (ok, far-fetched) stories. - Inconcessus - 06-09-2009 I agree with Swift. Some people over react and rate every derogatory word, or words sometimes used as insults into the same category as the F word. For an example, here is what the above mentioned "bastard" means: 1. Born of unwed parents. 2. Not genuine; spurious. 3. Resembling a known kind or species but not truly such. is it that harsh ?! Do you blush when you say "bastard sword" ? In my opinion, if somebody is not sure about the meaning of a word then go look for the definition of it and then determine if that is really as dirty as you thought it to be. Darn, I went off topic again... Sexy pictures, violent avatars and (ok, far-fetched) stories. - Ironwatsas - 06-09-2009 *Watsas then enters the thread* *** But in all seriousness, there are limits. This coming from the most sexually minded person in disco (Don't deny it Zapp), this is a Roleplay community, which depicts human and alien life 1000 years in the future, and part of that involves sex and violence, becaus humans like to mate and kill one another. Now, if someone is offended by the stories on the forums or scantily clad, heavily armed anime girls representing our respective characters, they can be so. But we're here to tell stories, about fictional characters, in what is ultimately a game about people killing one another in spaceships. However, I am in agreement with the current set of rules coverning pr0n and swearing. And even I make a point about never going into graphic detail or linking risque images on the forums or ingame. The rare occasions I do are with mature audiances and done far from the forums or the server. And I agree that should be the case here. This *is* afterall, a spaceship computer game, not an erotica gallery. As for Violence, I personally am not into the gory stuff. Action, shootouts, death and destruction are one thing. They make good motivators and plot elements. As for graphic torture, disemboweling and destroying the human body (and Nomads and Gaian Wildlife, poor things), I personally do not like it much. Not that I'm squeamish, but it's just a bit depressing (and cliched at this point). However, given freelancer is mainly about war and conflict, and we have peopel with as high bodycounts as Mon'star, Salazar, the Phantoms, etc, it is to some degree a necessity. However images with the sort of horrific bloody mess are best gotten rid of. Infact, I'd consider intense and graphic violence a lot worse then sexuality. At the end of the day, unless we desperately need Disco allowed in China, our current rules regarding "Very Erotic, Very Violent" content are sufficient, As is the general common sense of most of our playerbase. Sexy pictures, violent avatars and (ok, far-fetched) stories. - Walker - 06-09-2009 Ohaidere, I'm going to show people that you can make an awesome story without a bunch of other immoral crap. I guess what we could say now is... Is it actually necessary? I mean, you can add anything you want to the story but, do you have to? *Wanders off to Stories* Sexy pictures, violent avatars and (ok, far-fetched) stories. - taboo4u - 06-09-2009 didnt take time to read all the pages but... from what i did read... censorship leads to nothing but ignorance and trust me there is more then enough ignorance in the world. all that exists is possibility and our observations about it. when you limit the imagination you defeat the purpose of the game and life. i mean if i can put up with christians i am sure you guys can handle violent stories and sexy pictures... Sexy pictures, violent avatars and (ok, far-fetched) stories. - Primus Avatar - 06-09-2009 Trent himself was, I will quote him: shot at, knocked out, held at gun-point, electrocuted, squered alive by giant alien shape shifters, had to dive out windows, and had to fight off spawnly alien incubai. All good action films on TV have this sort of "plot". Do not view freelancer's cutscene no.10<--This has an inappropriate finale with swear words and a older man (Councilor) doing some perverted bondage action with the president (Jacobi). i mean seriously, if you censor every possibly offensive word/action in freelancer you would have cutscenes look like this;) Sexy pictures, violent avatars and (ok, far-fetched) stories. - mjolnir - 06-09-2009 Avatars/Signatures I have to wonder why would you have to use an avatar/signature with problematic content? Is it that you simply have no other way to get attention? If you need to be provocative and want to be noticed there are many other types of avatars/signatures to do it. Going for half naked girls or some other stuff like that is simply a cheap and easy way. So use them if you want, but my opinion about a person who needs to use something like that to get attention is certainly not high. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Now since we have some people already posting here I'll write what I think about theirs: Patriot's avatar - cheap and stupid, the old one (with that drinking guy) was much better Exile's signature - no problem, though I completely fail to see why is that women in the picture. Varyag's avatar - while I have no problem with it, I can see why some parents won't like it. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Stories People tend to mention problematic content in the thread name which is just fine. As long as it's mentioned there basically anything can be written about imo. @ Balthazzar The freelancer cutscenes went trough the rating system just as the rest of the game and made it trough as approved even for this 12 year olds. Before you start giving other people unwanted (and probably also unwarranted) criticism, maybe you should look after yourself first. Lets review the (sadly) official opinions based on conservative thoughts: Quote:TEEN while 12 year olds "should" play something labeled as: Quote:EVERYONE 10+ even thou i must agree that 12 year old hear far worse things on MTV than Jacobi's: "Burn you son of a <insert female dog>!";) Sexy pictures, violent avatars and (ok, far-fetched) stories. - Linkus - 06-09-2009 Also a factor to remember, it isn't just attention that the scantily clad women garner. The majority of us are all guys here. No doubt a good few like the idea of having a sexy captain etc. Not many may like having a 46 year old hairy fat guy with a balding head. (Or they might...O.o) In the end it's personal preference. I think the current state of things is actually very good. Some leeway is allowed and things are generally laid back but not full frontal nudity is shown, so it's all kept to a 12 rating or so. Anyway, your imagination is the greatest tool that the human mind has, including for those such things;) |
