New ship plans - ACER_SPACER - 09-23-2009 Could a dev please post about some of this? I think that some of the ideas being tossed around are very interesting. New ship plans - Kazinsal - 09-23-2009 I support the frigate ideas, as well as maybe the interceptor if it could be made to not be overpowered. Maybe.. is there a way to code (maybe with flhook) a ship that has no weapon slots but one or two weapons that are like built into the ship? So the interceptor could have like two built-in chainguns or something like that so you can't overpower it with pure awesome weapons yet still do a bit of damage. EDIT: An interceptor would have to also be like a mini version of the Dagger fighter (sleek and cool-looking yet small enough to be fast and agile.) New ship plans - Camtheman Of Freelancer4Ever - 09-24-2009 Corvettes would be nice, ive seen them in other mods. A combination between a gunboat and a VHF, but not a Super Heavy Fighter. Perhaps 2 GB turret slots and 4 Level 10 Missle/Gun slots, or 4 GB turrets and 2 Missle/Gun slots for the Heavy corvette. It would be primarilly anti small-ship. and it would be classed as a gunboat on the ID's. I've brought this up before, but I really for the life of me cannot remember what anyone thought. New ship plans - TYHPilot - 09-24-2009 EDIT* Darn someone proposed the Interceptor light fighter Idea already, oh well here's my ideas. Most people are talking about Capital ship improvements and additions, why don't for the next version we work on bringing back the usefulness of light fighters as an interceptor interdiction kind of craft. Imagine instead of knocking out trade lanes in bombers and gunships that these interceptor light fighter craft can actually catch up to freighters and transports in cruise mode and get them then. These revamped light fighter/interceptors would be the only thing capable of catching up with ships that managed to turn on cruise engines and escape out of the effective range of your CDs. Okay maybe in some ways it gives traders 0 chance of escaping and survival now that people can get them even when they are cruising away. But a single one of these by itself doesn't pose much of a threat by itself. A half decent player with five or six Transport Turrets can probably down a light fighter easily. Moreover, you could restrict the kind of CD they could use (if possible) to make it so they are only effective when under 1.5k or 1k. Maximum class of guns keep at 9 with 8s more commonplace. It would be a good way to promote teamwork too. Now then when you would want to effectively blockade a trade lane or guard a jumphole, you would work in a pair or more. One being the enforcer the other being the chaser. Maybe you could focus on a way of making them more like a reconnaissance or scout fighter. Instead of brute power of weapons, it uses superior electronics and specialized weapons that are specific to its class of ship. Longer scanning ranges, faster more powerful thrusters (high drain though), EMP missiles or guns which drain powerplants and/or shields, maybe even be the only class with cloaking ability (A single fighter cloaked with no firing ability won't do much harm besides scouting enemies and assessing enemy location and strength) Give people a reason to say, hey I want to fly that light fighter because it is quite useful and can play a role when we go out and pirate as a group besides soak up fire and distract people. |
