This is the kind of questions that answers themselves at the same time... Common logic. a no armor Cruiser against a cap 8 GB is gonna have a hard time.

I know someone who was soloing a battleship in a AU MK VIII GB and winning, but it was taking forever so they both quit.

I can solo LABCs, but Cruisers have a thruster so they have the ability to stay on your ass and pound you, and you can't charge them head on, they have too much fire power.
Only way I can see a Gunboat beating a Cruiser is if the Cruiser is a complete idiot and flies away while shooting backwards. But the pilot being stupid doesn't mean a ship sucks.
