If anything, the community in general should be shelling out the cash to pay Dab, not just Nexus. I'm sure there are plunty of traders out there with a hefty chunk of spare change and nothing to use it on.

I don't think the community should have to pay Dab for something like this.
This base would be something for everyone. I personally LOVE the idea and really want it built.
The admins need to reach into THEIR wallet for the funds. This should not be player funded. Completely IMO

Now Dark.. When a construction company makes a museum, do they say: "Oh, no cost, its for anyone." No.. they say; Okay, it'll cost you this much.
Now, I'm spending time building this, you guys are spending time trading and making money.. Now, I can't do that because I'm building. Therefor, don't you think I should be paid by the guys making money, when I spend hours upon hours making a base? This isn't an easy 45-minute job here. Its much more. I gotta make a loadout for the station, gotta put that Spyglass in (If Igiss allows it) and thats definitely not an easy job. I have to make it undockable, and I got to add commodities, equipment, ships, NPCs of all the factions, the patrols of those faction's ships. How about YOU go make a system and see if you should be paid for it.

Why when a player is the one that came up with this idea? Guard systems can be used by everyone too, though factions pay for them as well. If admins had to pay out for it all the time, even with exceptions of guard systems, than EVERYONE would be asking for bases everywhere, because they don't have to pay for it.

It does seem that Tortuga is something that will in some way, shape, or form be of benefit to the entire community; if for no other reason than it's a cool idea and it looks cool. So, either the community at large should contribute; or, the Admins should indeed delve into their endless supply of "funny money", and pay Mr. "Whines-alot" his filthy lucre for designing and building it.
In a way, the community "will" pay for it; simply by remaining around to enjoy it, and not going elsewhere. It's about the numbers, in a way. Product placement and validation. We have a superb mod. Making it even better with this addition can only help its popularity along. It's "win/win".
As to paying for stuff "all the time", what in blue blazers does that refer to? Are we asking you to give up yer Admin salary or sombunall of it?
And Dab, your analogy of a designer doing it for free ain't holding the Holy water.. sorry. Who cuts the check for a Library or a State Office Building? The "Government" does. In this case, the Government being the Server Gods. Oh, sure, the Government gets it back through taxes, or bonding, or parking tickets, from the citizens; but again.. what's to be governed if everyone decides to move to the next State where the Libraries and Edifices are shinier and newer?
Maybe we should have another poll, to approve a "Bond", or a one-time "tax levy" for the project. Dab quotes a prices somewhat less than his usual cut-throat rates; We post his price, divided by the number of players who have, say, more than a million creds in their Net accounts; and that's the tax we'd vote on. If approved, just as an example, we'd all wake up the next morning with each of our characters, say, 30,000 credits poorer. That should cover it if the Admins won't. Scrooges.

Well, we'd need a good RP reason for cash disappearing, I guess, Mal. Stock market crash, Junkers and an Asgard Warrior taking advantage of it?

Apart from that or a .addcash for Dab, I can't see another way of going about it.
