I canna change the laws of Physics! - jxie93 - 01-13-2011 ' Wrote:Oh look..it turned into a discussion about the ''catch up tactic''..wow..who would've guessed [/sarcasm] Then you shouldn't complain when traders start firing at you as soon as you come in range or cruise on without a word, since it's roleplay for greedy traders to try to protect their profits and lives as much as possible. You won't get to extort a trader and it makes you angry and stuff, but guess what? Traders don't care. They want their cash and they're willing to do anything to protect it, even ruining the fun of you pirating them. All in RP that is... heh. Also 5.2 still applies the trader is required to say something before it starts firing it's lasers. Well, that's totally fine, and since it has almost no chance of killing the pirate, it will only make him angrier. And that's not a good thing. I canna change the laws of Physics! - redkestrel - 01-14-2011 I still stand that if this tactic is employed in a situation where the escapee isn't simply trying to win a battle of interest by flying 500k in a given direction, it's in poor taste. The goal of a pirate or any player for that matter, shouldn't be to do whatever means necessary because they absolutely need to shoot the escapee. In my other example, its been a lot more fun for both parties that my smuggler continues to evade a few select people in the navy, because it's built up a fun rivalry and the navy players aren't getting too into the game and worried about actually catching him just to get over on me. The goal is RP, not virtual money points, right? I canna change the laws of Physics! - VoluptaBox - 01-14-2011 I support it as a valid tactic. That is because a mastodon flies just as fast as a scimitar in a straight line, doesn't make much sense. Supposedly, in .86, light fighters get a boost. In that case I wouldn't support the tactic anymore. Edit: saw many saying stuff like pirates accepting that the trade fled, and pride an stuff. Tell me what's fair in this: a trader arrives, I say a few lines, he completely ignores and just keeps shift+w'ing. Server is so goddam full cd's can't hit ships the size of a planet, so he engages cruise. He says he doesn't care if I catch him after all, he just flies 500k in the middle of nowhere and lets me kill him ( I never actually followed, I pirate for rp. If they don't want to, I let them go. But people do). He does this just to screw with me, and I can't do anything because my ultra light fighter isn't faster than his huge piece of brick loaded with bricks. I know for a fact that on the US server admins/admin friends like to speed mod on their RP chars, but I dont think they would do it on GC, with the high population and all. Install some video recording software like Xfire (free) or fraps (not legally free) to check your impression, could only have ben a mirage through a weird angle.
