Not sure where you're getting the 500 lightyears from, but it aint even a close guess, and that number was never mentioned in any canon sources.

Well, if you check the Sirius wikipedia article, it says there's a supercluster aproximately 500 Ly away from the Sun, with that name.

I thought we had established some time ago that the sirius cluster we've actually named isnt the sirius cluster of freelancer. The sleeper ships were aiming for the 'real' sirius cluster, but passed it, and colonized somewhere beyond that.
